Travel to College Station!
Our first stop will be the Presidential Library,
which reveals the challenges and influences
of the 41st President’s life and career through
photographs, films, 40,000 artifacts on rotating
display, and more than a million audiovisual records. Visit the
Orientation Room in the rotunda to watch a 30-minute informa-
tive film. A self-guided tour includes Bush’s Camp David Office,
the White House Situation Room, and the replica Oval Office.
Note: All visitorsmust pass through a security checkwith
a metal detector. No weapons allowed. All bags will be
X-rayed and possibly searched by security staff.
Our next stop will be the Texas A&MUniversity College of Vet-
erinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where we will have
a student-led walking tour. This school is one of only 31 colleges
of veterinary medicine in the U.S. and Canada. We will see the
academic classrooms and both the Small and Large Animal
Teaching Hospitals.
Note: This tour requires quite a bit of
walking as well as some stairs, so knowyour limitations.
After a full morning, we will have lunch at Johnny Carino’s.
Lunch consists of house salad; pasta entrée: ChickenFettucini OR
Spaghetti andMeatballs ORAngel Hair with Artichokes; tea or
coffee; and mini Italian Chocolate Cake (a rich, warm chocolate
cake toppedwith sweet chocolate icing, toffee, and almonds; served
with vanilla ice cream). No menu substitutions available. Ticket
cost includes transportation, museum admission, and lunch.

Houston Museum of Natural Science –
Bulgari Jewels and Battleship Texas Artifacts
with Dinner at Chappell Hill Deli
Monday, September 15, $62 pp

View 150 show-stopping pieces,
inspired by the Greco-Roman classics, along
with sketches and materials from the luxuri-
ous jewelers’ archives! Sortino Bulgari, aGreek
silversmith, moved toRome and opened his first
shop in 1884. By the 20th century, the Bulgari brand included
jewels, watches and even hotels. Included in this exhibit are sev-
eral pieces from the Elizabeth Taylor collection. In addition, we
will see artifacts fromBattleship Texas and the flag that flewover
the ship as it participated in the D-Day invasion. You will have
until 3 p.m. to tour the exhibits on your own. Not to be missed is
the Gem Vault—custom-made jewelry from precious minerals.
On the way to Houston, we will stop at Buc-ee’s. For dinner we’ll
stop at Chappell Hill Deli for a barbecue dinner about 4:30 p.m.
When we arrive, you will have your choice of brisket, chicken or
sausagewith two sides; coffee, tea or soda; and cherry or pecan pie.
Note: Wear comfortable shoes. If desired, youmay bring
your ownwater and lunch to eat on the bus. Deadline to
purchase tickets is September 11.

fees, and dinner.

Chinese Feast and Market Tour - Austin
Tuesday, September 16, $65 pp

Dorothy Huang, author of
Chinese Cuisine Made Simple
and Chinese
cooking expert, taught a class for Sun City
Texas in April. The sold-out class was such a
great success, Dorothy has agreed to take us
to a Chinese restaurant andmarket walking tour. We will start
with a sumptuous Chinese lunch at First Chinese Barbecue, an
eight-course feast for 10 people at a table. With Dorothy’s guid-
ance, you will order and share all the dishes. While eating, she
will explain how each dish is prepared and the ingredients used.
Following lunch, we will walk to the MT Chinese Supermarket
where Dorothywill take themystery out of themarket’s products.
Bring a shopping list and a cooler for perishable items youmight
want to purchase. Dress is casual with comfortable shoes for
walking. This trip is sure to be fun, informative and delicious!
Note: This is a small group (26) tour on theClarkMini Bus.
Ticket cost includes transportation, lunch, and guided Chinese
supermarket tour.

Red River Wars Clash of Cultures

During the
1870s, an epic struggle for control of the South-
ern Plains pitted Native Americans against
the U.S. Army. For almost two centuries, Eu-
ropeans and Anglo-Americans interactedwith
bands of Native Americans mostly in trade, but violent conflicts
intensified as more whites moved westward. To end the clash of
cultures, the U.S. Army resolved to force the Indians onto res-
ervations in Indian Territory. The Red River War of 1874-75
proved a turning point in frontier history. Our journey will look
