Town Hall: Avoiding and
Recognizing Investment Fraud

Representatives from federal and state law enforcement
agencies will speak to Sun City Texas residents on Friday,
September 5 about the warning signs of investment fraud
and what investors should do if they suspect they have been
defrauded. Ms. Sharon Pierce, Executive Assistant United
States Attorney of the Western District of Texas, Mr. Bob
Elder, Communications Coordinator & Investor Education
Specialist of the Texas State Securities Board, and Mr. Drew
Zimmerman, Attorney Adviser with the U.S. Securities and
Exchange Commission’s Office of Compliance Inspections
and Examinations, will highlight patterns of investor fraud
and various resources available for investor protection and
education. The presentation starts at 10 a.m. in the Social
Center Ballroom.
The presentation will explain how investors can defend them-
selves against promoters of fraudulent or inappropriate in-
vestments by being aware of the tactics they use, by carefully
checking all the investment material they provide, and by
investigating their credentials before committing any money
to the investment opportunity.
The speakers will also highlight specific types of risky invest-
ments law enforcement agencies have investigated or pros-
ecuted recently, including various types of promissory notes
and high-yield offerings, oil and gas projects, life settlement
investments, and private offerings.
Resident Directors’ Open Session
Wednesday, August 20, 3 p.m., CCG

The Resident Directors of the Sun City Texas Community
Association Board will host an Open Session on Wednesday,
August 20 at 3 p.m. in the Georgetown Room at the Cowan
Creek Amenity Center. This meeting allows for a two-way
dialogue between the Resident Directors and the residents at
large and will focus mainly on matters listed on the August
Board Workshop agenda. All residents are welcome and en-
couraged to attend.
Guidelines, which would allow homeowners to modify their
yards for water conservation purposes. They established the
community’s first xeriscaping landscaping standard that includes
mandatory requirements for drought-tolerant and deer-resistant
plants in new landscaping projects and optional requirements
for Firewise plants in new landscaping projects. This year, the
committee is reinvestigating the use of artificial turf as part of
residential landscaping, which is currently prohibited by the
City of Georgetown.
