2014 Deer Census in Sun City
Submitted by the Wildlife Management Committee
It’s that time of year to mark your calendar for the annual
Sun City Texas Deer Census. The Wildlife Management Com-
mittee will be conducting the Deer Census from September
15-17. Reserve dates, in case of bad weather, will be September
18-19. We anticipate needing 65-75 volunteers. Please mark
your calendars and look for specific sign-up details in the
September
Sun Rays
and the CA Communicator.
Shrub pruning is scheduled in August, and our CA staff is
working closely with TCB on best pruning practices. Crews are
instructed to trim plants from sidewalks, walls, air conditioner
units, and roof lines. TCB’s pruning schedule works by trim-
ming approximately 25 homes in a particular neighborhood
during each mowing visit. With this schedule, every home will
be trimmed once a month.
Mulching:
The mulching process has been completed for the
maintained homes to help maintain adequate soil moisture
for the plants and to keep the weeds down to a minimum.
Irrigation:
Irrigation will remain at two times a week for the
remainder of the summer, following the City of Georgetown’s
mandatory water restrictions. Please contact us if you notice any
plant material or turf in stress because of high temperatures.
Live Oak Canopy Lifting:
As the community’s trees con-
tinue to grow and shade the turf, we have asked TCB to lift
the canopies of the Live Oaks. By lifting the canopies, this
will allow more sunlight to reach the previously shaded turf,
resulting in a thicker, fuller turf.
