Caribbean Ensemble Concert at UT Bates Hall
;
Dinner at BRIO Arboretum - NEW!
Wednesday, November 13, $51 pp
Depart SCPL 4 p.m.; Return 10:45 p.m.
This “gem” of a performance hall
with its rich array of musicians brings all
kinds of music from around the world. Tonight
we will hear a 12-piece ensemble comprised
of UT students. They will perform festive
music from the Caribbean and Hispanic cultures. We’ve previ-
ously attended jazz, classical and organ concerts performed by
these students―and now for something totally different! The
one and one half hour performance with drums, percussion,
guitars, keyboard and more will have us moving in our seats
along with their music.
Before the concert we are headed to BRIO in the Arboretum
where we’ll experience the flavors of Tuscany without leav-
ing the country. Our specially prepared meal begins with
Field Greens Salad mixed with cheese, pine nuts, tomatoes
and balsamic dressing. Our center cut Pork Chop, marinated
and seared on the grill, will be accompanied by Penne Pasta
Mediterranean. The pasta is tossed with sun-dried tomatoes,
mushrooms, feta cheese, spinach and caramelized onions.
Dessert will be their special milk chocolate caramel cake.
Iced tea, soda and coffee are included.
Note: There are a few steps to enter the hall and a walk
to reach the elevator/stairs.
Ticket cost includes transportation, dinner and concert. Dead-
line to purchase tickets is November 5.

Lost Maples State Park - NEW!
Monday, November 18, $60 pp
Depart SCPL 8 a.m.; Return 9 p.m.
Lost Maples State Natural Area covers more
than 2,000 scenic acres in Bandera and Real
counties, north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal
River. Acquired by purchase from private owners in the early
1970s, the site was opened to the public in 1979. Approximately
200,000 people visit the park annually. The maple trees should
be in their full beautiful winter colors! To get the full view,
you may hike approximately 700 yards into the park and 700
yards out.
On our way to the park we will have lunch at historic Camp
Verde General Store and Restaurant, established in 1857
to offer goods and services to the soldiers stationed at Fort
Verde. Country favorite menu choices include Donna’s Meatloaf;
Chicken Tender Plate; or Arthur’s Delight (grilled turkey and
Swiss cheese with grilled onions, cranberry jalapeno compote
on sour dough bread with fries). There will be time to browse
the grounds and shop in the general store.
After leaving Lost Maples, we will head to Fredericksburg for
dinner. Dinner is on your own at the restaurant of your choice.
Note: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. (Some of
the trails are uneven and steep.) Optional items: snacks
or drinks, camera, cell phone, binoculars. As on all of
our bus outings, bring an emergency contact name and
phone number of a relative or neighbor.
