Those Were The Days
Thursday, August 22, $42 pp
Depart SCPL 9 a.m.; Return 5 p.m.
Summer’s ending, school’s begin-
ning, last picnic of the year, hot cars and
cool floats – those were the days. We begin
at Dick’s Classic Car Museum in San Marcos,
a climate-controlled showcase of over 80 rare
and unique automobiles. From elegant Duesenbergs to fun-
in-the-sun T-Birds, enjoy memorabilia, gas pumps, bicycles
and engines – varoom!
The next stop is San Marcos River’s City Park for a picnic
lunch. Choose chicken salad croissant or ham and cheese on
multigrain bread. Lunch includes chips, pickle, brownie, and
water.
Then comes a cool float – the kind that doesn’t come with a
straw. The San Marcos River, with constant 72 degree waters
fed from Aquarena Springs, is relaxing and gorgeous. Float
down the peaceful river to the Rio Vista rock rapids, where you
may exit to the shuttles OR grab onto your tube and “shoot”
the three-tiered rapids – chill and thrill! The float trip takes
approximately 1-1 1/2 hours depending on the flow of the river.
Shuttles run every 15 minutes. Restrooms, snack bar and gift
shop are available near the river entrance.
Note: Youmust be able to swim, walk on uneven ground
and get yourself in and out of the water. You will be re-
quired to sign a release before receiving your inner tube.
Styrofoam and glass are not allowed on the river. Don’t
forget sunscreen, hat, towel, and suitable footwear. “If
it ain’t tied, taped, or tattooed to your body, don’t take
it on the river!”
Ticket cost includes transportation, fees, river tubes, and lunch.
