Paula Poundstone, One World Theater
Saturday, August 31, $80 pp
Depart SCPL 4 p.m.; Return 10:30 p.m.
Paula Poundstone continues to be
one of the foremost comics working today.
Her ability to create humor on the spot is
legendary; she is masterful at improvising
with the crowd through her casual air, impeccable timing and
razor-sharp wit. She is a popular panelist on NPR’s “Wait Wait
. . . Don’t Tell Me!” She has published her first book,
There’s
Nothing In This Book That I Meant To Say
and released her
first comedy CD,
I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them In Maine
in 2009.
An Emmy Award winner, she is also the first woman
to receive the Cable ACE Award for Best Standup Comedy
Special.
As one critic stated: “Poundstone has a rare talent. A refreshing
anti-celebrity: warm, gracious, genuine. If you like intelligent,
philosophical comedy you’ll love Paula Poundstone.” One World
Theater in Austin is the perfect place to see Poundstone, as
you are up close and personal.
Prior to the concert we will stop at the Domain (also in Austin)
where you will be able to choose from the many restaurants
for dinner on your own.
Ticket cost includes transportation and theater admission.

Wine & Chocolate in Hico, TX: Wiseman
Chocolate Tour/Red Caboose Winery - NEW!
Wednesday, September 4, $44 pp
Depart SCPL 8 a.m.; Return 6 p.m.
Eat dessert first! Life is short! That is
what we will do as we begin our journey
through the back roads to the Wiseman House
Chocolate Company. Chocolatier Kevin Wen-
zel sells 15 flavors of handmade truffles made
with everything from raspberry and champagne to orange
and chipotle. Kevin and his wife moved to this town of 1,400
and began their small gourmet chocolate company in 1996.
We will tour in two groups, eat samples and then cross over
to the blue and yellow Queen Anne Victorian cottage built in
1903 where they sell their famous chocolates.
Next door is the Billy the Kid Museum. You’ll have time to
learn about the legend of the “infamous outlaw”, walk around
the shops and have lunch on your own at Jersey Lilly’s. Or
how about chicken fried steak and strawberry pie at the Koffee
Kup? Bob Phillips, Texas Country Reporter, said it’s the best!
Next, we’re off to the Red Caboose Winery, named by Wine
Business Monthly as one of 2012’s Top 10 Hottest Brands.
Located in the small town of Meridian, their philosophy is “sim-
plicity.” They created a winery that is green and sustainable.
We’ll have six samples, and as a treat, we can keep our glass!
Ticket cost includes transportation and wine tasting. Deadline
to purchase tickets is August 23.
