CCF/g, $5 pp
open seating - Theater Style**
Otto Preminger took the music of George
Bizet’s Carmen and transformed it to North
Carolina during World War II. Add English
words by Oscar Hammerstein II and you have
a film that not only won the Golden Globe
award for best musical or comedy 1954, but is also selected for
preservation in the US National Film Registry by the Library
of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically
significant.”
This movie will transport you to North Carolina during World
War II. Dorothy Dandridge plays the seductive Carmen who is
en route to prison when she convinces the young soldier escort
(Harry Belafonte) that life with Carmen has its rewards. But
then the world famous prizefighter, HuskyMiller, comes to town.
If you would like to stay for a group discussion after the movie,
Carol Hines will lead that discussion.
