In an emergency, call 9-1-1 from any landline
or cell phone. From a CA phone in one of the
Sun City Texas facilities (e.g. Ballroom, Fitness
Centers, etc.), first dial 9 to get an outside line
and then 9-1-1 (i.e. 9-9-1-1).
WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY?
An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assis-
tance from ambulance/EMS, fire department or police. A fire
in your house or on property, an auto accident with injury, or a
crime in progress are obvious emergencies. Amedical emergency
may include someone who is unexpectedly unconscious or not
breathing, having chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding, or severe
pain or a severe allergic reaction. If you are not sure if the
situation is a true emergency, call 9-1-1 and let the dispatcher
determine whether you need emergency help.
WHO RECEIVES YOUR 9-1-1 CALL?
Your local call is received by a City of Georgetown dispatcher
who will ask you about the nature of the emergency, and im-
mediately route your call to the appropriate agency while you
are still on the line. Georgetown has an enhanced 9-1-1 system,
which means the dispatcher can identify, through the system’s
computer, your wired (landline) telephone number and address.
If you have only a cell phone or a VoIP (Voice over Internet Pro-
tocol) phone, such as Vonage, check with your provider about
enhanced or E9-1-1 calling.
The dispatcher will ask for your name, a phone number and
address or location to verify information in case the connection
is lost. Stay on the phone until you are told otherwise or a dis-
patched unit arrives! If it is amedical emergency, the dispatcher
will transfer you immediately to the medical dispatcher sitting
nearby who will provide step-by-step instructions to you while
an ambulance is en route. Williamson County EMS has an
ambulance at Station 3 in Sun City Texas staffed with Emer-
gency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics. Often,
the fire engine from Station 3 may be the first to respond with
firefighters who have received emergency medical training.
WHAT IS YOUR LOCATION?
Be sure your home address is clearly seen from the street and
not obscured by plants or landscaping. Replacement bulbs for
lighted address numbers may be purchased at Ace hardware. If
you are in a Sun City Texas facility, the address of the building is
located inside near the entrance. If you are home, flip your front
porch light to the 9-1-1 mode. Someone may also stand at the
street to direct the emergency unit to the appropriate location.
HELP HAS ARRIVED!
Give the responders your Emergency Contact Information Form
and Emergency Medical Information Form you should have
taped to or inside your refrigerator. If you need an extra copy
of these forms, you can find them at the Monitor’s Desks or
online at
Go to the Site Index and click on
Emergency Management Committee. From there, you will
find links to the forms on the left-hand side of the page, named
“Emergency Contact Information Form” and “EmergencyMedi-
cal Information Form.” Keep the forms on/in your refrigerator;
you may also wish to place a copy in the glove compartment
of your car and in your Emergency “Grab ’n Go Bag.” These
forms should be updated when there is any change in medical
condition, medications, etc., or at least annually. Should you
need emergency aid, this information will be helpful to EMS
and Emergency Department staff.

Veteran Burial Benefits
Submitted by J. Paul Comola, CTSVC Outreach Volunteer, 512-819-9953
Are you an honorably discharged veteran from active duty in the
U.S. Armed Forces? Then you and your spouse are probably eligible
for this incomparable State of Texas Veterans Cemetery benefit.
Internment at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery-Killeen
is at no cost for the veteran and minimal cost for the spouse. The
benefit includes: space, concrete liner (for caskets), opening/closing,
headstone, engraving, and perpetual care. There are three options
for cremated remains: Columbarium Wall; Scattering Garden;
and In-ground Internment. Military Honors are arranged through
your Funeral Director. Misinformation continues to keep eligible
veterans from applying for this benefit, including:
• You must be a Texas resident.

• My spouse cannot be buried there.

Unlike the National System, the Texas program allows you
to pre-register. For information, call the CTSVC at 254-616-
1770, or call the CTSVC Outreach Volunteer, Sun City Texas
resident J. Paul Comola, at 512-819-9953 to arrange an ap-
pointment. Paul has all the required forms and will assist you
with pre-registration. You will need a copy of your DD214 and
marriage certificate. It is highly recommended that you visit
the cemetery before completing the paperwork. A visit will
help to understand the program and make you proud of this
benefit that is available to veterans; a benefit you have earned!
The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery is located about
13 miles north of Florence on SH 195 (out the Sun City Texas
back gate and left on SH 195). All Sun City Texas residents
are welcome to visit the cemetery, which is open to the public
daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
