In May, the Pet Club’s therapy dog
teams implemented a new, very suc-
cessful program with Southwestern
University in Georgetown. To help the
students, faculty, and staff decompress
from studying and tests, we brought
some of our therapy dogs to the uni-
versity during final exam week. There
were 10-12 teams on the library lawn
for more than 2 hours each day so that
students, faculty, and staff could come by
and visit with the dogs. About 100-150
Southwestern folks joined us each day!
Everyone at Southwestern was wonder-
ful - the students were very appreciative
of our efforts, and they just loved the
dogs. We had wonderful conversations,
telling the students about our work, the
many wonderful people who live in Sun
City Texas, and, of course, bragged about
our terrific canine companions. It was a
blast for everyone!
Thanks to the dedicated teams who par-
ticipated―you really made a difference
to all the folks at Southwestern.
Pet Club President, Tom Olsen, recent-
ly announced that every effort is being
made to reschedule the Fort Hood K9
demonstration originally planned for
May 8 at the Bark Park. Due to a con-
flict, the army had to cancel. A number
of you who had not gotten word of the
cancellation came out and we thank you
for your interest. Rest assured informa-
tion will be published once a new date
is established.
Currently, our club boasts a member-
ship of 145 families. If you would like to
add your name to the roster, call Presi-
dent Tom Olsen at 512-639-2085.
