The Fabric & Fiber Club is one of the
oldest chartered clubs in Sun City Tex-
as―and one of the most exciting―one
trip to their studio will show you why.
One day, you may see men and women
spinning and weaving, beading, quilt-
ing, scrapbooking, rubber stamping and
doing other creative paper artwork. On
another day you might see rug hook-
ing, machine embroidery, sewing and
embellishments, appliqué, or members
just “Sitting and Stitching” on their own
projects and enjoying being with each
other. Visitors are welcome.
A highlight for the club is the annual
Hill Country Arts and Craft Fair, which
is held here in Sun City Texas every
November. The club’s Special Inter-
est Groups (SIGs) show and sell their
creative wares, and all monies earned
from the fair go back to the SIGs to host
speakers, conduct classes and work-
shops, buy supplies, and host social ac-
tivities. One such activity is the brunch
Style Show and Annual Meeting each
December where members “show off”
their beautiful work.
Club membership has continued to climb
since moving into the new studio four
years ago; the club even welcomed 100
new members last year. As of May 1,

2013, the club has 435 members. Presi-
dent Gladys Kennedy gives credit to the
SIG leaders who are fully devoted to their
crafts. “They are the best,” she said.
Skills range from beginner to expert,
and the quality of work has improved
significantly due to members sharing
their talents with one another, bring-
ing in outside speakers, technological
advances, their studio, and outstanding
support from the CA staff. “If we need
something, someone is available to help,”
Gladys said. “If the studio needs main-
tenance, a staff member is right there.”
Annual dues are $20, which enables
members to participate in any SIG.
Money paid for dues buys cutting tables,
audio-visual equipment, microphone sys-
tems, ironing boards, and other equip-
ment for members to develop their craft.
Dues may be paid online by following
the ticketing link on the Sun City Texas
website or in person at the Member Ser-
vices Office.
The club’s bi-monthly newsletter,
Snip-
pets
, keeps members up-to-date. For more
