Join us on the trail! The Hiking Club will
sponsor more than seventy-five group
hikes this year, as well as four social
events. Hike destinations include not only
nearby scenic areas, such as the San Ga-
briel River Trail and Lake Georgetown’s
Goodwater Loop, but also more far-flung

dividual level of hike difficulty, ranging
fromWalker to Exerciser to Challenger.
Trails vary from three to twelve miles

Horseshoe Courts
Contact: Bob Blattner, President, 512-
869-8226 or
Recently, some of the Sun City Neigh-
borhoods have contacted me regarding
using the horseshoe & washer courts
for their social activities. I’ve indicated
that Sun City residents and their guests
are welcome to use the courts. I would
also be glad to assist their groups with
scoring, etc.
Several of our members participated
in the Senior Games in San Antonio in
April. Next month I plan to let you know
which of our members won awards.
We welcome Sun City residents to join us
for horseshoe practice/game sessions on
Tuesdays & Thursdays at 1 p.m. (winter),
and 9 a.m. (summer).

The Horticulture Club has a 5+ acre
Community Garden located at 141 Sun
City Blvd. near the softball field. We
have over 260 raised garden beds mea-
suring 5 ft. x 24 ft. and all beds have
water provided by our onsite water well.
We hold spring and fall plant sales to
help raise funds to support the Club and
keep us growing, as well as many social
events during the year.
Inside the 8 foot deer fence, we have
many Special Interest Groups with favor-
ite projects of their own. There is a fruit
orchard with peach, plum, nectarine, fig
and apple trees, the vineyard that will
produce our own “60 Vines” wine, and
the herb garden where members can clip
herbs for their own use. Our Nursery SIG
takes in donated plants and nurtures
them for re-sale year-round. We also
have an Iris SIG, with about 50 variet-
ies of Bearded Iris available for sale. A
new addition is our commercial-grade
greenhouse, where we will be starting pe-
rennials, annuals, vegetables and herbs
for sale to Sun City residents.
If an active group like the Horticulture
Club sounds interesting to you, visit us
for a tour most Saturday mornings at
the Gardens from 9-11 a.m. Or come to
a monthly meeting on second Tuesdays
at 1 p.m. in the Atrium, where we have
informative programs on gardening and
related subjects.
