Computer Club SIGs

The Computer Club has many groups that meet each month to discuss topics of interest. Computer Club members, click on the SIG name below for description and meeting schedule. To add your name to the SIG mailing list, click on Resident home from the Sun City website, then click on "My Memberships".  From the My Memberships page, under the Computer Club, check the box of the SIG you want to join.

An alternate is to click this link which will show you all of your current clubs along with all available SIGs for those clubs. To join a SIG, check the box of the SIG(s) you wish to join.

Apple SIG (formerly iDevices)

The Apple SIG (formerly iDevices) is about everything Apple.  Past iDevices meeting presentations are still available for viewing.  Our Apple SIG provides an opportunity for sharing experiences and knowledge about iPhones, iPads, Apple watches, iTunes & Applications. We all know how important these devices have become in our daily lives, and this group can help you get the most out of them.

Because of the sheer number of Apple SIG enthusiasts, the SIG meetings are held at The Retreat where we could not get a consistent time slot. Make sure you are signed up for the SIG mailing list to ensure you are informed about meeting dates and times.

Artificial Intelligence

The Artificial Intelligence SIG provides a forum for the exchange of information and experience regarding the usage of AI tools such as ChatGPT.  

The Artificial Intelligence SIG meets the second Friday of the month at between 1:00 and 3:00 pm in the Atrium.

Beginners SIG

A new Beginners SIG has been started. This SIG, led by Jim Winslow, identifies and addresses common needs and basic answers to questions with lots of patience and without fear of embarrassment. It is mainly intended for our members who have a Windows computer and are having trouble or are lost.

The Beginners SIG meets in the Annex every fourth Monday of the month between 2:00 and 3:30pm.

Coding

For those who are interested in coding, this SIG provides a place where discussion and information can be exchanged. Whether you are just starting out or have years of experience, you will find that this community is welcoming and supportive.

The Coding SIG meets monthly in the Annex every third Wednesday between 3:00 and 4:00pm.

Cybersecurity

Our Cybersecurity SIG is a group that is dedicated to making our digital lives safer. John Jenkinson, the SIG leader, ensures we all benefit from learning more about this critical topic.

There are two meetings of this SIG scheduled via Zoom: on the first Thursday and the third Thursday, each time from 3:00 to 4:00pm. John tries to do an in-person meeting in the Annex once a quarter.

DNA SIG

The DNA SIG is a subset of the Genealogy SIG (listed below) and provides a forum to learn about DNA tests for genealogy research.

DNA Genealogy meets monthly in the Annex on second Wednesdays 9:00 to 11:30am

Gaming

Are you interested in gaming on computers, tablets, phones, consoles or other electronic devices? If so, you may want to attend the new Gaming SIG of the Computer Club, managed by Rex McCaskill. The goal of this SIG for all levels of experience is to have fun!

The Gaming SIG meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Annex from 9:30 to 11:00am.

Genealogy

If you are interested in genealogy research, our Genealogy SIG is the place to be. This group, managed by Betty Fowler, provides a forum for the exchange of information and experience about the use of computer programs and the many resources found on the web for genealogical research. And for those who are interested in DNA tests for genealogy research, our DNA SIG, also led by Betty Fowler, and provides a forum to learn about this exciting field.

Genealogy Tips and Tools (formerly Genealogy FTM), led by Bonnie Berg, is a support group for assisting each other in utilizing software, websites and tools in genealogy research.

Beginning Genealogy is for people who are just getting started or for those needing a refresher in researching their family history. The Beginning Genealogy SIG is led by Lynn Gustison. You cannot sign up for these sub-SIGs separately. They are (relatively speaking) small groups and the email list is handled by their leader. Beginning Genealogy meets in the Annex on the first Wednesday of the month from 10:00 to 11:30am; DNA Genealogy meets monthly in the Annex on second Wednesdays 9:00 to 11:30am; Genealogy meets in the Atrium on the third Thursday each month from 10:00 to 11:30am; Genealogy FTM meets in the Annex on the fourth Thursday each month from 10:00 to 11:30am

Google World

The Google World SIG is a forum for the exchange of information and experience on Google products for persons at all experience levels. This SIG, led by Wayne Kurtz, provides guidance and discussions for anybody who uses or is interested in Google tools on either Microsoft, Apple or Google devices and operating systems.

The Google SIG meets in the Annex the third Monday of the month (starting October) between 2:00 and 3:30pm. 

Internet of Things (IoT)

Our Internet of Things (IoT) SIG is for you, if you are interested in home automation, experimenting, designing, and implementing microprocessors, micro-controllers, sensors, and activators. This SIG is directed by Tom McBride.

The IoT SIG meets the second Thursday of the month between 10:00 and 11:00am in the Annex.  

MAC Users Group

Our Mac Users Group (MUG) is a great place to share and contribute any and all things related to Apple's Macintosh systems. John Jenkinson leads the MUG SIG.

The MUG meets via Zoom the fourth Wednesday of the month between 3:00 and 4:00pm. John tries to do an in-person meeting in the Annex once a quarter.

Scams and Computer Safety

The goal of the newly formed Scams and Computer Safety SIG, directed by Tom Adkins, is to provide basic education regarding common scams and fraud, regardless of the form of technology involved. Topics include scams effected by phone, email and text, including developments in AI and voice cloning, risks of social media and phony websites, etc.

The Scams and Computer Safety SIG meets twice monthly in the Annex on the first and second Wednesday of the month from 2:00 to 3:00pm. 

VectorVest

The VectorVest and Beyond SIG has existed in various forms since 1999! It focuses on the VectorVest software and how it positions itself as a simple source for market guidance and facilitates the optimization of investment portfolios. Bud Dorholt leads this SIG.

The VectorVest SIG meets quarterly in January, April, July, and October on the first Wednesday of the month in the Annex from 6:00 to 8:15pm.  

Windows SIG

For those who are dedicated to the understanding of and proficiency with the Microsoft Windows operating systems, our Windows SIG is the perfect fit.

The Windows SIG is scheduled every second Tuesday between 3:00 and 4:00pm. The meetings are primarily delivered via Zoom at this time. John tries to do an in-person meeting in the Annex once a quarter.
