Riders on the Orphan Train

The one-and-a-half-hour multi-media
presentation,
Riders on the Orphan Train
,
tells the story of the 250,000 orphans and
unwanted children who were put on trains in
New York between 1854 and 1929 and sent
all over the United States to be given away. The presentation
is comprised of original music, an audio-visual presentation of
archival photographs and interviews with two surviving orphan
train riders (a man who came to Berryville, Arkansas and a
woman who came to Greenville, Texas). The presentation is
followed by a dramatic recitation from the new novel
Riders on
the Orphan Train
by Alison Moore.
After the presentation, there will be an informal discussion led
by AlisonMoore and Phil Lancaster about the origin and demise
of the largest child migration in history and the part it played
in the formation of the American Dream.

Is it time to get rid of things you no longer need

Twice a year, Sun City Texas hosts a public
garage sale. The Garage Sale is a great event
for shopping, buying and selling household items. All Garage
Sale spaces are the size of a parking space. Select and purchase
your space online or at the Member Services Office.
• All spaces are $45 and include a table.
• Set-up time for booths is Friday, April 10, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
•No setup or vehicle traffic in booth area on Saturdaymorning.
• Security officers will be onsite to patrol the sale area from
3 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday; however, the safety and
security of your sale items cannot be guaranteed.
• It is advisable to cover all items due to weather hazard.

Spring Plant Sale
Saturday, March 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sun City Gardens,
141 Sun City Blvd.
The Horticulture Club will hold their Spring
Plant Sale on Saturday, March 21 from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sun City Gardens, 141
Sun City Blvd. Shrubs and bedding plants,
perennials and annuals, vegetables and herbs
will be for sale. There will be drought-tolerant and deer-resistant
varieties available, with a focus on Texas native and adapted
plants. Come early for the best selection. Back To Nature Cotton
Burr Compost, hardwood mulch, and the club’s own brewed
compost tea will also be for sale.
Swamp Pop Night in the Ballroom - NEW!

The Sun City “Kiss Me I’m Cajun” club is
sponsoring the Fourth Annual Swamp Pop
Night - a fun night of listening and dancing in
the ballroom. Swamp Popmusic was created in
the late 1950s and ‘60s in the Acadiana region
of south Louisiana and an adjoining section of southeast Texas.
This event is open to all Sun City residents. Tickets are available

Garage Sale set-up time is on Friday,
April 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Garage Sale is open for
shoppers on Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. We will
not allow any set up on Saturday morning and no items
will be sold prior to 8 a.m. Saturday, April 11. These rules
were designed with safety in mind for all participants and
the rules will be enforced.
