Take a journey
along The Independence Trail fromSan Felipe
to San Jacinto. Visit the sites and hear the
stories of the men and women who pioneered a
new republic, forged a legendary spirit and
created the Lone Star State of Texas.
Wednesday
- Our story begins in Goliad at Presidio La Bahia,
the world’s finest example of a Spanish frontier fort and the
most fought-over fort in Texas history. Next we visit the Fannin
Monument, hear the story of the Angel of Goliad and explore the
1749 Mission de Espirito Santo.
At Fannin Creek Battle Grounds, site of the Battle of Coleto
Creek, we will have aWhichWich box lunch (included). Choose
fromthe following: HamwithSwissORRoast Beef withCheddar
ORTurkeywith Pepper Jack. All sandwiches are onwheat bread
with lettuce and tomato; chips, cookie and bottledwater included.
After lunch we will drive through old town Victoria, hear a
story of French settlement and stop for ice cream (included). The
Hampton Inn inRosenberg hosts our two-night stay and includes
hot breakfasts eachmorning. Dinner is on your own at the Brazos
Town Center with a nice array of restaurants and shops.
Thursday
– Today’s story begins in Richmond at The George
Ranch Historical Park, a 23,000-acre working ranch settled in
1824 as part of Stephen F. Austin’s original colony. Visit three
homesteads, hear tales of early Texas and enjoy a chuckwagon
BBQ lunch (included). Next is the Fort BendMuseum, including
a tour of the cottage of Jane Long, considered theMother of Texas.
Before dinner you may rest at the hotel or take a short ride to
the Baps Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir, a masterpiece of
intricate design and the first traditional Hindu temple of its kind
in North America. Sugarland Towne Square is our destination
for dinner on your own and offers a wide array of international
dinning choices and specialty shopping.
Friday
- Thefinal story takes place at TheSanJacintoMonument,
Museumand Battleground inHouston. Take a ride to the top of
the monument for a bird’s eye view of the historic battleground,
explore the exhibits, and see themovie
