Next is Scholz Garten, the oldest beer garden in Texas and home
to some fine barbeque. Lunch features smoked brisket and turkey,
potato salad, coleslaw, beans, bread, soft drinks and a scoop
of Amy’s Mexican vanilla ice cream. Following lunch we will
have time to stroll the State Capitol grounds and take in a little
“sidewalk history” before our scheduled tour.
Our Capitol tour will begin in the south foyer with its impressive
statues and a terrazzo floor depicting the twelve battles fought on
Texas soil. A Capitol Guide, well versed in the Capitol’s history
and lore, will guide us through the rotunda and dome, House
and Senate chambers, Governor’s public reception room, and the
Supreme Court. We will finish in the Capitol Extension with a
short question and answer session.
Ticket cost includes transportation, tour fees and lunch.

Our evening begins with dinner at
Pappadeaux and their famous salad. Dinner
options (select when you purchase tickets):
ginger salmon, a char-grilled filet; pan grilled
tilapia topped with toasted hazelnuts; mixed seafood grill, a
skewer of assorted char-grilled seafood served with dirty rice;
rosemary chicken, a new selection receiving rave reviews. Dessert
selections: vanilla cheesecakewith fresh strawberries or chocolate
cake. Coffee, tea, tax and gratuities included.
Following dinner, we will enjoy the UT Symphony Orchestra
with Maestro Gerhardt Zimmerman, Artistic Director since
2006. This orchestra is quickly becoming recognized as one
of the nation’s top college orchestras. The UTSO is a full-sized
modern symphony orchestra with 60 to 90 performers, the
exact number depending upon repertoire needs. This evening’s
repertoire includes
The ChairmanDances; Foxtrot for Orchestra,
Cello Concerto in EMinor, Op. 85
and
Beethoven Symphony No.
4
. Austin is known as the “LiveMusic Capital of theWorld,” and
this concert will leave no doubt how fortunate we are to have
such exceptional talent close to home!
