After a summer off from dog training,
it’s almost time for classes to start up
again. The Pet Club will hold an infor-
mational meeting for those interested in
training classes onWednesday, August
20, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jarrell and Wal-
burg Rooms at the Cowan Creek Ame-
nity Center. The club offers classes in
three levels: Beginner, Intermediate,
and Advanced. Classes will start mid-
September.
Interested members can also pursue
their American Kennel Club Canine
Good Citizen Certificate, and/or their
Pet Partners Therapy Dog designation.
Pet Club Therapy Dog teams currently
volunteer in a number of Georgetown-
area senior living locations, hospitals,
court systems, libraries, and schools. If
you like to volunteer in the community,
doing so with your dog could be a lot of
fun, and very rewarding.
Emergency Vets
Do you knowwhere to find a veterinarian
when your regular vet’s office is closed
for the evening or weekend? There are
two emergency veterinarians located in
Round Rock. Get their information on
the club micro-site, or by emailing the
club at
.
Summer Heat Advisory
If it’s too hot for you to walk barefooted
on the sidewalk or road, then it’s too hot
for your dog or cat to be out walking. If
you can’t keep you hand on the ground
without burning it, then your dog or cat
should not be walking outside. Walk your
pets early in the morning, or later in the
evening when the heat of the day has
subsided. A burned paw is no fun!

Contact: Sue March,
Try out the fastest-growing sport
around! Pickleball!
Pickleball is similar to ping pong, bad-
minton, and tennis—it’s a fun, active
game that can be mastered by anyone,
from youth to adults! It is played on a
badminton-like court with the net lowered
to 34 inches, and uses a perforated plastic
ball (similar to a whiffle ball). Paddles,
instead of racquets, are used and are
made of wood or of composite materials.
Contrary to what many beginning play-
ers think, the goal is not to score points
by simply outhitting opponents. Finesse,
placement and positional sense are often
the difference. Many points are scored
by hitting the ball at tough angles and
placing it at the feet of opponents
Players enjoy the social aspects and the
ability to stay active and fit. You can find
Pickleball facilities in towns and resorts
in every state. Players call it the most ad-
dicting sport ever! Be prepared for excite-
ment, exercise, laughter and new friends.
Pickleball is a great way to meet new
people and play a game that accommo-
dates a wide variety of skill levels and
ages. It is a fun, easy sport to learn! Come
swing a paddle with us and enjoy one of
the fastest growing sports in America!
The Pickleball Club offers
free
begin-
ners training classes. Just wear court
(not street) shoes and workout gear—we’ll
provide the expertise, the teachers, the
paddles and balls.
