Takea journey
along The Independence Trail fromSan Felipe
to San Jacinto. Visit the sites and hear the
stories of the men and women who pioneered
a new republic, forged a legendary spirit and
created the Lone Star State of Texas.
Wednesday
- Our story begins in Goliad at Presidio La Bahia,
the world’s finest example of a Spanish frontier fort and the
most fought-over fort in Texas history. Next we visit the Fannin
Monument, hear the story of the Angel of Goliad and explore the
1749 Mission de Espirito Santo.
At Fannin Creek Battle Grounds, site of the Battle of Coleto
Creek, we will have a WhichWich box lunch (included). Choose
fromthe following: HamwithSwissORRoast Beef withCheddar
ORTurkeywith Pepper Jack. All sandwiches are onwheat bread
with lettuce and tomato; chips, cookie and bottledwater included.
After lunch we will drive through old town Victoria, hear a
story of French settlement and stop for ice cream (included). The
Hampton Inn inRosenberg hosts our two-night stay and includes
hot breakfasts eachmorning. Dinner is on your own at the Brazos
Town Center with a nice array of restaurants and shops.
Thursday
– Today’s story begins in Richmond at The George
Ranch Historical Park, a 23,000-acre working ranch settled in
1824 as part of Stephen F. Austin’s original colony. Visit three
homesteads, hear tales of early Texas and enjoy a chuckwagon
BBQ lunch (included). Next is the Fort BendMuseum, including
a tour of the cottage of Jane Long, considered theMother of Texas.
Before dinner you may rest at the hotel or take a short ride to
the Baps Shri Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir, a masterpiece of
intricate design and the first traditional Hindu temple of its kind
in North America. Sugarland Towne Square is our destination
for dinner on your own and offers a wide array of international
dinning choices and specialty shopping.
Friday
- Thefinal story takes place at TheSanJacintoMonument,
Museum and Battleground in Houston. Take a ride to the top of
the monument for a bird’s eye view of the historic battleground,
explore the exhibits, and see themovie
Texas Forever! The Battle
of San Jacinto
. Lunch is on your own in Katy. Choices: Panera
Bread, Applebee’s or Thai Cottage. After lunch, we will visit San
Felipe de Austin, the social, economic and political center for the
original “Old Three Hundred.” See where it all began and walk
the path that led to Texas Independence.
Ticket cost includes transportation, 2 hotel nightswith breakfasts,
1 box lunch, 1 BBQ lunch, 1 ice cream, and all admission fees.

Wednesday, April 22, $32 pp
Depart SCPL 8:45 a.m.; Return 4 p.m.
At the mention of the name “Lady
Bird,” bluebonnets andwildflowers immediately
come to mind. Learn about the founding of
the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center,
the importance of native plants, and the water
conservation programon our docent-guided tour. After the hour-
long tour, you will have time to wander on your own and shop
for gifts, books and much more. As a bonus, the bluebonnets
should be in full bloom.
After our history lesson of the Lady Bird Center, we travel to
Barton Creek Mall where you are free to have lunch on your
own or shop in one of their 180 stores. Anchor stores such as
Nordstrom, Dillard’s and Macy’s await you. If you prefer, the
AMC 14 Theater is located inside the mall, so you may want to
enjoy a movie. Mall maps and current movie showings will be
provided. You will have 2 ½ hours to roam.
Note: Bring a hat, water bottle and comfortable shoes
for the outdoor wildflower tour. Many of the paths are
over uneven gravel.
Ticket cost includes transportation and Wildflower Center
entrance and tour.

Enjoy a delicious dinner and a
hilarious show! Dinner will be a true taste of
authenticMexican cooking at Cantina Laredo.
A special fajita buffet includes their famous
fresh guacamole along with salsa, chips and
chili con queso followed by beef and chicken fajitas with all of the
trimmings. Youwill be able tomake your fajitas just the way you
like them. Dessert choices are Mexican apple pie or a Mexican
brownie. There will be ample time for you to purchase a beverage
of your choice from the cash bar. Consider the special Sun City
$3 Casa Rita to complement your dinner with a Texas flair!
After dinner we will go directly to Esther’s Follies for non-stop
