his year’s Follies will feature
highlights from shows between
1998 and 2014, otherwise known
as
Best of Follies
. I’m not supposed to
let you know the program (it’s very
hush, hush), so I won’t mention All That
Jazz or The Colors of My Life or What
A Wonderful World we live in here in
Sun City. In fact, I’ll keep it a secret in
Hernando’s Hideaway.
The Follies consists of music, dance
and comedy. It is age appropriate,
which means you’ll have some “mature”
laughs and likely sing along with a few
old favorites. Unfortunately, you’ll have
to save your dancing for home. The
Follies is a long-running tradition in
Sun City, with over 137 folks regularly
participating. For this year’s “Best of”
show, rehearsals have been ongoing since
the first of November, with performers
taking only a two-week break at the
holidays throughout that time. Rosemary
Byers, who began as a co-director back
in 2007, is serving as musical director.
Linn Ratcliff directs.
The Follies is produced by the Sun City
Texas Actors and Theatre Arts Guild
(AcTAG), however, auditions for Follies
are open annually to all who wish to
perform. Those not satisfied by one
performance a year should consider a
full AcTAG membership, which offers
participation in at least three full plays
per year. The spotlight-averse (set
designers, lighting techs, seamstresses
etc.) are also encouraged to consider
joining. To learn more about AcTAG,
