Join us for an evening of fun
at the award-winning musical
Once
. This
musical has entertained audiences nonstop
during its three year history and has won
eight Tony Awards including Best Musical in
2012. With no glorious staging or special effects,
Once
uses a
minimalist approach designed for you to relate more personally
with the actors. The only stationary set is a bar with scene
changes accomplished with lighting and props. The actors are
also musicians and even provide all the live music for the play.
This romantic performance intertwines the story of personal
love and musical dreams.
Once
is a Guy-Meets-Girl story with
unlikely partners. Guy is a depressed Irishmusician recovering
from a break up, and Girl is a precocious Czech pianist in a
complicated relationship. Watch these two develop as characters
and musicians until the very end of the story. More information
is available on the website
.
Prior to the performance, we will stop at The Domain in Austin
for dinner on your own.
Ticket cost includes transportation and orchestra seating.

Lunch on Your Own
Thursday, March 5, $53 pp
Depart SCPL 7:30 a.m.; Return 6:30 p.m.
Texas victories in Gonzales, Goliad,
and San Antonio during the fall and winter
of 1835 make up the first part of the Texas
Revolution; the second phase centers on the
Mexican invasion of Texas. Taking the Presidio
La Bahia and then San Antonio de Bexar brought the wrath of
General Santa Anna to bear upon the Texans, leading to the
ultimate price for freedom at the Battle of the Alamo.
Explore these historical sites: Mission Concepcion – site of the
first major engagement of the revolution; The Briscoe Western
Museum – home to an amazing diorama depicting the battle at
the Alamo, plus a collection of Western art and artifacts; and
The Alamo – the shrine to Texas Independence.
We will make a morning coffee stop at Buc-ee’s. At 12:30 p.m.
enjoy ‘lunch on your own’ at The River Center Mall.
After lunch we will see the IMAX movie,
The Price of Freedom
- Battle of the Alamo
. A short walk across the street brings us
to our self-guided audio tour of The Alamo and a Q & A session
with an Alamo historian.
Ticket cost includes transportation, entrance fees, movie, and
audio tour.
