Lunch – Martha’s Bloomers
Thursday, April 2, $56 pp
Depart SCPL 7:15 a.m.; Return 6:30 p.m.
Ticket Purchase Deadline: Wednesday, March 25
As the forces of General Santa
Anna laid siege to the Alamo, a courageous
group of Texas men gathered in a small
roughhewn building on the banks of the Brazos
River to write a new constitution and declare
Texas independence from Mexico. Hear the story of “Where
Texas Became Texas” at Washington-on-the-Brazos, a story of
quill pens and Bowie knives.
Our story begins at Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site, a
wonderfully preserved example of a 19th century country inn
and stagecoach stop. Yes, Sam Houston did sleep here, as well
as Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant.
Lunch is next at Martha’s Bloomers – an amazing combination
of home and garden décor, gourmet food items and beautiful
tea room. Choose one of the following plated lunches when you
purchase your ticket: Chicken salad croissant sandwich with
tomato bisque soup and peach cobbler ORHoney ham croissant
sandwich with garden potato soup and cherry cobbler. Coffee or
tea and a little browsing are included with your lunch.
We finish our story at Independence Hall, where 59 Texas
delegates stood their ground and pushed through fear and
uncertainty to create an independent Texas Republic. Our
visit includes a 35-minute program followed by a tour the Star
of the Republic Museum, an award-winning museum featuring
the history of ordinary Texans and extraordinary events.
Ticket cost includes transportation, tours, and lunch.

Depart SCPL 7:30 a.m.; Return 5:30 p.m.
Andean mythology says that Alpacas
were loaned to us by the gods, to be left on earth
for only as long as they were properly cared for
and respected. Today we explore this lore and
learn more about these wonderful creatures
as we tour the barns and wool rooms with the owners of Peeka
Ranch. Tucked into the rolling hills of Burton, this ranch is home
to more than sixty fuzzy Alpacas, each named for their unique
bloodlines and individual personalities. Petting and feeding is
allowed and springtime means “little ones,” so don’t forget your
camera. After our tour there will be time for perusing the Ranch
Store for alpaca yarns, clothing, and gifts.
Note: We will make a stop in Carmine at The VillageMarket for
coffee before going out to the Peeka Ranch.
After Peeka Ranch, the historical courthouse square inBrenham
is our stop for lunch on your own. Maps for the cafés, shops and
historical attractions will be provided.
Save room for dessert, because the Blue Bell Creamery is our
final destination. Following a short filmand a guided tour of the
plant, wewill be treated to a scoop of delicious Blue Bell ice cream.

The Last Five Years
– Penfold Theater –
Austin - NEW!
Thursday, April 9, $40 pp
Depart SCPL 6:15 p.m.; Return 10:30 p.m.
The Last Five Years
is a play that received
critics’ acclaim as “flawless,” “the sort of
production that audiences are lucky to see
– unique, intimate, beautiful, painful, and
wonderful,” “a piece with feeling, sophistication,
and great entertainment value,” and one in which “every
disappointment registers in vivid, personal detail.”
This is the musical story of the five-year relationship between
Jamie, a rising novelist, and Cathy, a struggling actress, who
get married and discover that their passions and priorities often
collide. In an interesting form of presentation, Cathy tells her
story starting at the end and working toward the beginning,
and Jamie tells his story from the beginning working toward the
end. The only time the two players directly interact is during
their wedding song when their timelines intersect. The small
venue of the Penfold allows us to respond to the characters as if
we know them personally.
Ticket cost includes transportation and play. Only 25 tickets will
Purchase your tickets for CA Sponsored Outings at
