could. Nope, wrong again.)
Just this summer, Shuffleboard be-
came a SIG (Special Interest Group) of
HAWKS. The courts are adjacent to the
Bocce courts and next to the Horseshoe
Courts. Shuffleboard is open every day
to residents; however, for those who en-
joy fellowship, members meet at 9 a.m.
Tuesday and Thursday for an hour of
play and socialization.
Membership for HAWKS is $12 annu-
ally; $6 after midyear. The club also has
tournaments throughout the year and
a barbecue in early fall. The Sun City
HAWKS have fierce competitors like resi-
dents Doc Garza and Curtis Burson, who
recently competed in the Senior Olym-
pics. The medals they received are quite
impressive!

they fatigued the soldiers too much to be
effective in battle (ditto, ditto).
The Sun City Texas Horseshoe Courts
are located in a tree-covered oasis, near
the Bocce courts and the Texas Drive
swimming pool. Games are played every
Tuesdays and Thursday from 1:30-3:30
p.m. in the winter, and from 8:30-10:30
a.m. in the summer. Men under the age
of 70 play from 40 feet; those age 70 and
older play from 30 feet. Women of all
ages play from 30 feet.
Similar to Horseshoes, Washers involve
pitchin’ a small metal disk into a box.
(I thought it involved throwin’ Maytags,
Whirlpools and Kenmores as far as you
