Contact: Sue March,
Pickleball is picking up in active-
adult communities!
It’s part tennis,
part badminton and part table tennis.
It has a goofy name―pickleball―and its
gaining popularity across the country,
especially in active-adult communities.
Calories burned
Playing pickleball for one hour can burn
500-600 calories (source: shapefit.com).
You are burning calories and boosting
your mood, while having fun.
The Wiffle ball is fairly slow-moving and
much lighter than its cousin, the tennis
ball, as well as its distant cousin, the rac-
quetball. Even if you do get hit with it, you
won’t suffer the same severity of injury
from a denser, faster ball. The courts are
also about half the size of a tennis court,
which means less running around.
In the
“Real Deal” pickleball tourna-
ment
held in Houston September 6-8,
the following club members were winners
of medals; the group represented the Sun
City Pickleball Club very well in a highly
competitive tournament.
Womens Doubles: Sandy Arico - Gold
Womens Doubles ( Skill level 4.0): Sandy
Arico - Bronze
Mens Doubles: Jack Warner – Gold;
Chuck Flanagan – Bronze; Larry Hud-
son – Bronze; Joel Kutnick – Bronze;
Lorenzo Perez – Bronze

Newly retired or a new resident to Sun
City? Looking for a fun hobby that you
never had time to pursue? We build them
and we run them: Airplanes, Sailboats,
Helicopters, Powerboats, Cars, and Off
Roaders. Come and learn how to do it
with a group just like you……lots of
members, men and women, new to the
hobby along with some seasoned hob-
byists who will show you how. We’re
just over 2 years old and we’ve grown
to over 140 members. We even have a
computer controlled Flight Simulator
if you don’t want to do the “live stuff.”
We “fly it” at the weekly meetings. We
also fly heli’s and small airplanes in the
Ballroom one Sunday a month and do
other “fun stuff” at Berry Pond and our
off-site flying place for the gas and large
airplanes. November schedule: Ball-
room fly-in November 3, 11:30-3:30 p.m.
and Boating at Berry Pond November
24, 1:00 p.m. Oh yes, informal sailing
every Tuesday and Saturday at 10 a.m.
at Berry Pond.
We fly small electric airplanes on the golf
course driving ranges on Monday’s when
a course is closed for play. We also fly ev-
ery evening at the Cowan Creek driving
range after the pro-shop is closed. We
need light wind conditions to fly so our
flying usually takes place in the early
mornings or evenings. If you see us out
flying, stop by and say hello.

nounced. Details and contact information
are available on the website. Members
are encouraged to sign up as soon as

The RV Club brings together those
residents of our active lifestyle com-
munity who also enjoy the RV lifestyle.
The result is a great combination for
friendships, travel and adventure. We
currently number nearly 100 rigs of vir-
tually every style and configuration. Our
members organize group RV trips to a
wide variety of destinations throughout
the year; they are listed on our website.
We meet once a month except June, July
and August, when many of our members
are away traveling. Interested residents
can find membership and other infor-
mation on the club website or from our
