Governor’s Mansion, Scholz BBQ,
& LBJ Library - NEW!
Wednesday, May 22, $36 pp
Depart SCPL 9 a.m.; Return 4 p.m.
It’s “history day” in Austin
beginning with a tour of the renovated Gov-
ernor’s Mansion. The Greek revival mansion
completed in 1856 was burned in 2008 by an
unknown assailant and carefully restored.
The mansion has been home to our most famous families, in-
cluding Sam Houston, the Hoggs, and the Bush twins. We will
be divided into three groups for the twenty minute downstairs
tour.
Lunch will be at the 1866 Scholz Garten for their BBQ buffet of
brisket and turkey with all the trimmings topped off with Amy’s
Mexican vanilla ice cream. On the way, we will hear about the
founder August Scholz.
Our historic day will end at the newly renovated LBJ library.
This ten story modern building with its plain exterior opened
in 1971. You will be on your own to tour the Oval Office, items
from the White House years, and the presidential limousine.
IMPORTANT! – Security checks are required to tour the
mansion. BEFORE YOU PURCHASE TICKETS, please
gather information for all persons in your party.
At the
time of purchase, youmust provide driver’s license #, state, name
as it appears on the license, and date of birth for each person.

Depart SCPL 4 p.m.; Return 11:15 p.m.
The opening of ZACH ‘s new Top-
fer Theatre is a brand new Austin experi-
ence and I don’t want you to miss it. More
than double the size of the old theatre,
you enter the building through curtains
of glass into a light-filled lobby. We’re going to see “Harvey”,
the Pulitzer Prize winning comedy with Austin’s favorite ac-
tor, Martin Burke, starring as Elwood Dowd, the happy- go-
lucky chap with a kind word for everyone he meets, including
his invisible best friend, a six foot rabbit named “Harvey.”
When Elwood’s social-climbing sister decides to have him com-
