February Yard of the Month
Karen & Ken Martin
109 Travis Drive
Yapon Holly with their bright red berries gives our
February Yard of the Month a beautiful color in
winter. The birds love this beautiful yard! Kar-
en and Ken moved into their eighth home from
Horseshoe Bay in October 2011. Ken has been
busy updating the previous plants and added a
few. The live oak tree was intentionally planted
crooked to some day shade the driveway. The
front yard landscaped areas are mulched with
rocks and contain red and yellow lantana, red
yucca, agave, gardenia, esperanza, nandina, fire-
cracker fern, sweet olive, cotoneaster, Burford
holly, pineapple guava, plumbago, purple plum,
several crepe myrtles and six live oak trees.
2012 RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Generous Sun City residents donated $15,204.22 to the Salvation Army’s
Red Kettle campaign during this holiday season. The monies are used to
provide holiday meals and lodging as well as toys for the children of impov-
erished families. The Kiwanis Club of Sun City Georgetown partnered with
the Salvation Army by coordinating the project. More than 130 residents
rang the bell at City Market, who allowed us to locate the Red Kettle on
their porch. More than half of the bell ringers were Sun City residents
who are not Kiwanians but volunteered in the spirit of the season. Many
organizations supported the efforts including the Georgettes, Woodshop,
NRO, Hunting and Fishing Club, and many others. We thank you all for
making this year’s campaign from Sun City a huge success for the Salvation
Army. See you again next year! Photo: L – Pat Harron; R – Beth Harron.
