July Yard of the Month
Congratulations to DJ and Nathan Cor-

by Del Webb in Sun City Texas and have
made significant changes to their original
yard over the past 18 years. A photo is

level of hike difficulty, with trails vary-
ing from three to twelve miles in length.
Potential members are welcome to take

Neighborhood Doubles Horseshoes
Tournament – Come Play!
The HAWKs (aka The Horseshoes and
Washers Club) invite the men and wom-
en of Sun City Texas to participate in a
doubles horseshoe tournament in July.
Come and represent your neighborhood!
On Tuesday, July 8, we ask you to come
to the courts at 9 a.m. for some practice
and to give us some idea of neighborhood
interest. The tournament will be held
the following Tuesday, July 15. Refresh-
ments will be available.
Many of you may have played at family
picnics, though our members will assist
anyone new to the game. Please join us
in July for some good-natured competi-
tion and fun.
Shuffleboard SIG
Sun City Texas has an active Shuffle-
board group; approximately 20 indi-
viduals belong to the Shuffleboard SIG
and 20 other residents also play at the
two courts (adjacent to Bocce Courts,
and next to Horseshoes and Washers).
The courts are open every day to resi-
dents. Although there is no league play,
members of the SIG and other residents
gather at the courts at
9 a.m.
every Tues-
day and Thursday to play for one hour.
Shuffleboard is fun for individuals of all
ages and all physical abilities. It is easy
to learn and easy to play―an ideal out-
door activity to enjoy with friends and
neighbors. Newcomers are welcome to
join us any time. If you have not played
in the past and would like to be intro-
duced to the game at a time other than
9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, email
Tom Rice at

Horticulture Club
No meeting in July or August
Nursery open Thursdays and
Saturdays, 9-11 a.m.
Garden Beds available now.
Contact: Lynsie Lander,
The Horticulture Club will not have mem-
ber meetings in July and August, since so
many of our members travel during the
summer. On July 3 at noon, we will again
have our “Brats at the Barn” potluck lunch
for members and their guests. Registration
will be online.
With summer temperatures comes the
slow time at the Gardens; about all that’s
growing are okra and eggplant. Now’s the
time when your bed should be allowed
to rest and you can think about what
amendments are needed to prep for the
fall growing season. The Greenhouse is
also planning what they will grow for fall
vegetable gardens, so check to see if they
will be growing your favorites.
And we still have beds available for new
members, with enough time to get that bed
in shape for a fall garden. If this sounds
interesting to you, come by the Gardens at
141 Sun City Blvd. for a tour on Saturday
mornings between 9-11 a.m.
