H
ave you ever seen a beautiful sunset, a flowering cactus, or a young
child smile and wanted to enjoy it for a long time? Have you strolled
among the photographs lining the walls in the Activities Center, in
Cowan Creek Amenity Center, or The Oaks and wished you, too, could cap-
ture such a beautiful moment? Do you want to master the features in your
camera, even your point-and-shoot? The Sun City Texas Photography Club’s
goal is to help all its members become the photographers they wish to be.
The club is open to all skill levels from novice to advanced. They meet the
first Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Georgetown/Florence Rooms at
Cowan Creek Amenity Center, and visitors are welcome. In addition to general
information, they feature programs pertinent to photography, and Subject of
the Month photos are projected on a screen for all attendees to enjoy. In ad-
dition to fellowship time before each general meeting, the club hosts a spring
picnic lunch and a Christmas party.
Workshops & SIGs
Special Interest Groups provide education and training in Adobe Photo-
shop Elements, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop CC and CSx, Nature
Photography, Competition, Advanced and Novice photography. They have
also hosted workshops in “The Art of Printing,” editing photos on Picasa
and Photoshop, creating a free website using Fine Art America, and there
is an extensive resource library of books and CDs and portrait photography
equipment in the photo studio.
Field Trips
Monthly local and out-of-town field trips offer opportunities to learn tech-
niques and skills. A “Buddy System” pairs experienced photographers with
the less experienced for one-on-one training. Before every field trip, there is a
“warm up” session to explain techniques. After the trip, there is a “wrap up”
session to share favorite shots and compare notes. In April, a group went to
the Cameron Zoo in Waco. Future trips this year include Ft. Worth, Andice
for fireworks, the Texas State Capital, the Texas State Fair in Dallas, and
Big Bend National Park.

Exhibits & Competitions
There are many opportunities to exhibit photo-
graphs with monthly displays in the Activities
Center, The Oaks, Cowan Creek Amenity Center,
and the Photo Studio. There is also a month-long,
judged competition every year in the Activities Cen-
ter, and there are exhibitions in the Georgetown
Library and at St. David’s Hospital.
Themost important aspect in everymember’s quest
to become the photographers they want to be is
to enjoy the journey. For more information, visit
> Site Index > Photography Club,
or see page 118.
Club members meet for field trips, meetings, workshops and more – including parties like the spring picnic lunch, seen
in the photo above.
