April Program: ‘What’s a Garden
without Butterflies?’ byRuthLehman
Ruth and Paul Lehman have a mature
garden that was developed to attract wild
birds, butterflies and animals. Their yard
has been certified as a wildlife habitat by
the National Wildlife Federation. It was
featured last year on the Sun City Texas
Garden Tour and also received Yard of
the Month recognition (April 2013). In her
presentation, Ruth will identify some of
the common butterflies she photographed
last fall in her yard. She will discuss why
butterflies, as important pollinators, are es-
sential to humans. Learn what you can do
to attract butterflies and help them thrive.
You will also have an opportunity to check
out a book from our portable library, hear
“Garden Tips” and learn about the “Plant
of the Month.” Master Gardeners will be
available to answer gardening questions.
There will be a table for sharing plants,
seeds and garden items.
Garden Tour –May 3 & 4: ‘Butterflies,
Birds and Blooms’
The Sun City Texas Garden Tour is going
to be bigger and better this year, with a
silent auction, a “coffee shop” and other
surprises. Net proceeds of this annual
fund-raiser help support local charities.
See the “Events” section for details and
ticket information.

We are now playing at the courts at 10
a.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays.
Shuffleboard SIG
Sun City Texas has an active Shuffle-
board group; approximately 20 individu-
als belong to the Shuffleboard SIG and
20 other residents also play at the two
courts (adjacent to Bocce Courts, and
next to Horseshoes and Washers). The
courts are open every day to residents.
Although there is no league play, mem-
bers of the SIG and other residents
gather at the courts at 10 a.m. every
Tuesday and Thursday to play for one
hour.
Shuffleboard is fun for individuals of all
ages and all physical abilities. It is easy
to learn and easy to play―an ideal out-
door activity to enjoy with friends and
neighbors. Newcomers are welcome to
join us any time. If you have not played in
the past and would like to be introduced
to the game at a time other than 10 a.m.

Contact: Lynsie Lander,
The Spring Plant Sale on March 22 was
a great success—thanks to everyone who
worked the sale and all the customers who
came and bought. The Plant Sales are one
of our major fundraising activities each
year. Our Fall Plant Sale will be in late
September, so mark your calendars now!
If you missed the sale, there are still some
plants remaining: perennials, annuals,
vegetables and herbs. Come by the Gar-
dens on Thursday or Saturday mornings
between 9-11 a.m. to see we have. And our
Greenhouse is growing evenmore drought-
resistant summer perennials now, plants
that will withstand the hot Texas sum-
mers. We hope to sell from the Greenhouse
year-round.
