In the past year, two wildfires have occurred within five miles of Sun City. Homes were never threatened but wildfires in or within one mile of Sun City are always a possibility. Small wildfires have occurred in or near Sun City in the 11 past years.

Are your perceptions of wildfires based on news coverage of large blazes? The largest wildfire in Texas was the Bastrop Complex fire, which occurred in 2011 and covered over 34,000 acres. It killed two people and destroyed almost 1,700 homes. That same year, the Steiner Ranch fire engulfed about 160 acres on Lake Travis and destroyed 23 homes.

Research and documentation have shown that embers from wildfires are the major cause of home fires. How a house is constructed, what is around it and other factors contribute to the possibility of a home burning.

Join us to learn what recent research has shown about wildfire behavior, how a wildfire could affect your Sun City home and what you can do to reduce the potential for embers to ignite your home.

Texas A&M Forest Service and the Georgetown Fire Department have been invited to participate.________
