Purpose:

  • Heighten crime and drug and prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships

National Night Out (NNO) is a proven way to promote crime prevention in our neighborhoods. Residents volunteer to host an event, be it at a home, common area or apartment complex and invite people to attend. It's a great way to get to know and connect with neighbors. When neighbors look out for each other, there is less chance of crime occurring in their neighborhood.

Events can be simple or elaborate. It can be a potluck dinner, an ice cream social or just snacks and drinks. One neighborhood in Georgetown has a huge party and street dance – they rock the block! Hopefully, some of the larger neighborhoods can make this activity one of their annual events.

In addition to having Georgetown police officers and Police Explorers come to your event, city employees from Code Enforcement, Animal Control Services, the Georgetown Fire Department and Citizen Police volunteers will be out and about! You are encouraged to chat with all of them and to ask questions. When you fill out your registration form for the Georgetown Police Department NNO, you will be asked to check which city groups you would like to have at your event.
