“Regular, consistent exercise not only makes you feel and look
better, but it also increases your self-esteem, just knowing you
have the self-discipline to keep after it,” says Jerry. “Exercising
makes me feel rejuvenated and gives me a sense of well-being
and accomplishment.”
Jerry, retired from the oil and gas industry, starting lifting
weights and getting serious about his workouts when he was just
18. Now a fit 75-year-old, he has consistently played baseball,
golf, and tennis since he was in high school in Odessa, Texas.
Jerry says he took advantage of the personal training available
at the fitness centers because he realized his workout routine –
albeit consistent – was in a rut. “I want to constantly challenge
my body, and Marilynn has the knowledge and training to help
me do that,” he adds. “Marilynn shows me the latest and most
effective techniques to get the most from my workouts. She
sets me up on a routine until I know I have it right. After that,
she monitors and makes adjustments to ensure I’m always
challenging my muscles.”
Marilynn describes Jerry as a willing client when it comes to
trying new exercise methods. Not only has he learned to mingle
free weights with his former go-to weight machines, she says, but
he’s also become acquainted with the Fitball, designed to increase
core strength and balance because of its unstable surface. “Jerry’s
a hard worker and laughs throughout the learning curve,” she
adds. “He knew he needed to change his routine, but he wanted
to make safe changes.”
Helping clients break free from workout monotony is a job that
Marilynn never tires of. “It’s common for people to use the same
