ave you ever wanted to try your
luck at a hand of poker? Have you
watched Texas Hold’em tourna-
ments on TV and wished you, too, could
play? The Sun City Poker Club is the
perfect place to try your luck, learn new
skills, play in a tournament and have a
great time.
President Don Howard reports, “Poker is
good for our health! We have players in
their late 80s and 90s who keep us on our
toes.” Scientific studies have shown play-
ing cards exercises analytical thinking
and decision-making skills, and promotes
mental endurance as well. “But most im-
portantly,” says Don, “is the camaraderie,
fun, laughter and friendships formed.”
The club consists of men and women who
are interested in playing Texas Hold’em
and Omaha High/Low poker. Women en-
joy it as much as the men do — recently,
a husband and wife team even won a
tournament.
Texas Hold’em games are held every
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the
Activities Center on Texas Drive (for
times, see the Club Calendar on page 70
or the club article in the Chartered Clubs
section on page 109). You may come and
go at your leisure. Players buy-in for $20,
and there are tables for every skill level
from beginners, who may play for 25 to
50 cents, to serious players, who play for
$1 to $2 or more.
Every other month, the club holds two
types of no-limit Texas Hold’em tourna-
ments. The first type has a one-time, $10
buy-in with a pay out to the final three
players. This is a fun day, with pizza and
lots of laughter. The second type has a
one-time, $24 buy-in paid out to the final
three players, and has unique features,
such as a bounty paid to a player who
forces a designated player out of the tour-
nament, and payout to the player with the
highest hand called by another player.
Tournaments consist of three tables with
a maximum of 30 players, and players
must sign up in advance.
New members are always welcome. An-
nual dues are $10 per year, or $5 for those
who join anytime between June 30 and
the end of the year. Cards and chips are
provided. If you don’t know how to play,
club members will help you, or you can go
to
> Site Index > Poker
Club for game rules and instructions, plus
a complete calendar with game dates,
times and much more.
If you want to play poker: show up. Bring
your luck with you. And we
bet
you’ll have
a good time!
Bring your luck to the Sun City Poker Club!
