Use the Cruise!
First, let me congratulate Bob Glandt and Gary Sandercock on
becoming our new Resident Board Members. I look forward to
working with them for the betterment of the community. I would
also like to thank both Dennis Walter and KimMoran for their
service to the community as Board Members.
For those of you who attended or watched theMay BoardMeeting,
you know that only about 20 percent of our committee candidates
tend to be women. Come on, ladies, we need you! Be it serving
on committees or running for the Board, we need you. We can
thrive as a community on diversity of ideas! During this past
committee selection process there were 24 positions available.
Yes, there is time involved, but it needn’t be excessive, and it
is rewarding to serve your community, friends and neighbors.
Use the Cruise!
There is a lot of talk about traffic safety and speeding in Sun
City Texas. I think this is a valid concern, and we have been
extremely fortunate not to have had more accidents. So, in an
effort to alleviate some of our road-related concerns, quite a few
of my neighbors and friends are suggesting an easy-to-adopt idea,
“Use the Cruise!”—as in your vehicle’s cruise control setting. It
may take a little while to get into the habit, but Betty Ann and I
now find it all but automatic to set our cruise control as we enter
Sun City Texas roads. Set the control at approximately 35 mph,
and you will be doing all of Sun City Texas a favor—and you
will be surprised at how many people pass you! As Georgetown
Police Department monitors for speeders, at our request, let the
other guy get the ticket!
As to side streets, I find that I naturally slow down a tad when I
exit Sun City or Del Webb Boulevard onto the residential streets.
Personally, I am not sure you need to set your cruise control
when on residential streets. I think it starts with how fast you
are going when you enter. If you enter going 35 or 36 mph, you
will slow to 30-32 mph or less, automatically. But, if you enter
doing 40-45 mph, slowing to 35 mph or 40 mph will feel slower,
even though you are five to 10 miles an hour over the speed limit.
When leaving your home, if you live on or travel on a longer resi-
dential road before coming to the boulevards, say Whispering
Wind, Texas Drive or Pedernales Falls Drive, you might want to
set your cruise control on that residential road, as well. Setting
your car on cruise control in Sun City Texas will keep all of us
safe and you ticketless.
Remember…Use the Cruise! Give it a try.
