National Night Out
Tuesday, October 7, 6-9 p.m.
The Georgetown Police Department invites you to
participate in the 31st annual National Night Out
(NNO) on Tuesday, October 7 from 6-9 p.m.
Purpose of NNO
National Night Out is designed to:
• Heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention
•Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighbor-
hoods are organized and fighting back
Neighborhoods throughout the community are encouraged to lock
their doors, turn on their porch lights, and gather with their neigh-
bors and public safety personnel to show unity against criminal
activity. Many neighborhoods will be hosting a variety of special
events such as block parties, swimming parties, cookouts and vari-
ous other activities.
The purpose of National Night Out is to build strong partnerships
between the police and the community, and to promote crime aware-
ness programs such as Neighborhood Community Watch groups.
It’s also a fun way to get to know your neighbors and bond so that
you can look out for one another. A close-knit neighborhood is a
safer neighborhood.
Register Your NNO Party
To register an event for National Night Out, go to the Georgetown
Police Department website at pd.georgetown.org. Click on Programs
& Services on the top menu bar. The Programs & Services page will
appear. On that page, under Forms and Applications, click on the
link to the National Night Out 2014 Event Application. The form
can be filled out and submitted online—it goes directly to the NNO
Volunteer Event Coordinator.
START PLANNING!
It is definitely time to start planning this year’s National Night Out
party for your neighborhood. For this year, we have some dandy
suggestions to make these events even more fun. Listed below are
just a few great ideas for NNO event activities.
• Welcome new neighbors
• Have an exchange for books, plants or recipes—or play White
Elephant!
• Incorporate a crazy hat or other themed contest
• Host a neighborhood street dance—even have someone teach the
group to salsa dance!
• Play a round of games (dominoes, bridge, etc.)
• Listen to live or recorded music
• Have a neighborhood talent show
