Contact: Sue March,
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport
in the nation! So, why is pickleball tak-
ing off?
•
It’s easy to learn.
You can pick up the
game quite quickly, even if you’re not
familiar with tennis and other racket
or paddle sports. Unlike tennis, the
sport can be mastered quite easily—
in a single season instead of several
years. You don’t need to be an expert
to keep up.
• It helps build and maintain good hand-
eye coordination.
•
Everyone can play.
It’s called “a game
for all” for a reason; the equipment is
lightweight and the pace of the game
is more moderate, thanks in part to
the paddles and the whiffle ball (which
travels at half the speed of a tennis
ball).
• The smaller-sized court can also be eas-
ily covered without as much running
and avoid the joint and muscle strain
usually associated with high impact
exercise.
For people over the age of
65—who are the least active age
group—it’s an ideal way ward off
some of the downsides of inactivity.
Currently, pickleball is most popular
among the 55+ age group. It’s a way to
maintain a social, healthy lifestyle. Pick-
leball offers the opportunity to be socially
active and to meet new people.
We have free training classes, contact

Newly retired or a new resident to Sun
City? Looking for a fun hobby that you
never had time to pursue? We build them
and we run them: Airplanes, Sailboats,
Helicopters, Powerboats, Cars, and Off
Roaders. Come and learn how to do it
with a group just like you…lots of mem-
bers, men and women, new to the hobby
along with some seasoned hobbyists who
will show you how. We’re just over two
years old and we’ve grown to over 130
members. We even have a computer
controlled Flight Simulator if you don’t
want to do the “live stuff.” We “fly it” at
the weekly meetings. We also fly heli’s
and small airplanes in the Ballroom
one Sunday a month and do other “fun
stuff” at Berry Pond and our off-site fly-
ing place for the gas and large airplanes.
September schedule:
Ballroom fly-in
on Sunday, September 1, 1-3 p.m., and
Boating at Berry Pond on Sunday, Sep-
tember 29, 1 p.m. Oh yes, informal sail-
ing every Tuesday and Saturday at 10
a.m. at Berry Pond.
We also fly small electric airplanes on the
golf course driving ranges on Mondays
when a course is closed for play. We need
light wind conditions to fly, so our flying
usually takes place in the early mornings
or evenings. If you see us out flying, stop
by and say hello.
