GISD MENTOR PROGRAM
Mentoring can make a big difference in
a child’s life. By dedicating as little as 30
minutes a week with a student, you can
improve self-esteem and encourage kids
to stay in school, improve academic skills,
and provide support for new behaviors,
attitudes and ambitions. Share your life
experience and hard-earned wisdomwith
a child. It will be a rewarding experience.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BINGO
Bingo in the Ballroomwill be on Sundays,
September 8 and 22 in the Social Cen-
ter Ballroom. Doors open at 5 p.m., and
games start at 6 p.m. Cash prizes will be
awarded. All proceeds are used to support

THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL
Hope United Church, Agape Actors Co-
Op, and the legendaryMonument Café of
Georgetown are joining forces to produce
a dinner theatre production of Horton
Foote’s classic play
The Trip to Bountiful
as a benefit for Hope United Church and
The Caring Place. Performances will be
September 12-14. Tickets are $40 for VIP
seating; $35 for general admission; and
$30 for students and seniors and include a
buffet dinner prepared by the Monument

SENIOR U FREE LECTURE
On Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
in the Social Center Ballroom, noted
author and Texas historian, James L.
Haley, will give a talk on his latest book,
The Texas Supreme Court: A Narrative
History, 1836 – 1986

than 14 books on Texas history and is
the winner of nine historical and liter-

PALACE THEATRE
The Georgetown Palace Theatre pres-
ents
Music Man
from September 27 to
October 27. Con-man Harold Hill doesn’t
know a trombone from a treble clef when
he comes to River City, Iowa, to sell mu-
sical instruments and uniforms for a
boys’ band. His plans to skip town with
the cash are foiled when he falls for the
local librarian. Showtimes are Fridays
and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays

ROTARY CLUB GOLF TOURNEY
The Rotary Club of Georgetown presents
its 25th annual Charity Golf Tourna-
ment on Friday, September 27 at the
Cowan Creek Golf Club with a shotgun
start at 1 p.m. Entry fees are $125 per
player, or $500 per team. For those who
prefer not to golf, there will be dinner
at the Rotary & Blue Santa Bash from
6-9 p.m. that evening. Proceeds benefit
local youth through the Rotary Scholars
Program and Blue Santa Georgetown.
