The homeless population in Austin is a very hot topic. Join us for a tour of Community First, a true success story that has helped many homeless persons become working, law-abiding citizens. You'll hear the story of one man's vision for 27 acres that now includes homes, gardens, a mechanic shop and art studio. Note: Please be prepared to walk and stand during this 90-minute tour. Following the first tour, we will stop for lunch on your own with eating choices close to the Central Texas Food Bank, which will be our next tour. The new Food Bank is double its previous size and accommodates 125 volunteers. With 15 points of entry, drivers no longer have to wait to unload supplies and, in the new kitchen, 18 million pounds of recovered food are processed.
