Photo Sales

Sales Derived from Club Exhibits

One advantage of Club membership is the opportunity to show and sell your photographs. It is easy to do, but there is a process that must be followed to ensure that the Club receives its portion (10%) and sales tax is accounted for and that you receive your payment as quickly as possible.

It is usually important that you get the picture to the buyer ASAP. People have been known to forget about their offer and disappear or change their mind if there is too long a period between their interest and when you take it down. If you, the seller, choose to take it down early, it is your responsibility (and opportunity) to replace it with another of approximately the same size. Contact the coordinator of the venue. Although the sale process is easy, you must be aware of and follow these steps:

  • The Buyer will (usually) contact you using the phone number on the title card.
  • Go ahead and arrange a time to meet the buyer and continue the transaction
  • Please call the coordinator for that Venue let them know you sold your photo and discuss replacing the photo or not.
  • You should instruct the Buyer to write a check, payable to SCTXCA, for the asking price on the title card. Do not let the buyer remove the photo - you or the coordinator should do this. Gently lift up the photo a few inches then come forward with the photograph.
  • You collect the check when you deliver the photograph to the Buyer.
  • Put your check in an envelope with the Club's Treasurer (Randy Freeman's) name on the front, then include the title and price of your photo in the envelope with the check (cash is OK also).
  • Call or email Randy Freeman to let him know you had a sale. Drop the check in the mailbox slot that is located on the outside of the locked cabinet door located in the "Studio" location (Game Room 2) in the Activity Center.
  • Randy will review all checks weekly and submit them to the CA. The CA sends checks out on Thursday so do not hold onto the check for along period of time.
  • The CA will prepare a check payable to you – less 8.25% for sales tax and 10% for the Club. (See the following example)
  • You will receive a check in the mail once its been processed.

The CA will remit sales tax to the state for any photo sale. The only exceptions will be on designated "tax free" days (twice per year, as designated by the Photography Club).
