December 2020 - Jim Wooll

I spent my working career with IBM and retired as a Senior Consulting Information Technology Architect.  I have been an active biker for 35 years.

I spent my first 20 summers in retirement on a sailboat on the great lakes.  A sailboat is a great place to get morning and evening shots.

My dad always had a camera and shot slides.  I started in 1968 and have about 7000 slides, many bad, and have converted the good ones to digital using the Computer Club here at Sun City.  I have used super zoom cameras for the past 12 years and currently use a Cannon SX60.  Because I shoot for a screen and not a frame,  I crop to 16x9.  I also have a number of great iPhone photos

I was an early convert to digital and currently have about 50,000 images many of them from the boat and other travels.  My favorites are large outdoor scenes and I found that I enjoyed them more when displayed on a screen and not crowed into a small frame.  I stopped  almost all printing of photos about 5 years ago.

Ever image I have submitted represents a personal memory.  They take me back to the time and place when I pushed the shutter release.  As an example the rose was taken the morning after are arrival in New Zealand as we walked a botanical garden to work off jet lag.

I enjoy finding ways to use my collection and make trip histories.  If you search for “Jim Wooll” on YouTube you will find some of my recent work.

The photo club has improved my photography.  I have been member for 14 years, have led two SIGs and am currently the treasurer.  I continue to travel and to bike and look forward to going back to Europe next year.
