performed with many of the finest symphonies and at some of

Hollywood Bowl to the Sydney Opera House and the Real Teatro
di San Carlo in Italy.
We will stop for dinner on your own at The Domain prior to the
concert.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!
What better way to usher in summer than to
watch America’s favorite pastime? And what
better team for the Express to take on than
the triple-A team for the World Series Winning Cubbies, the
I-Cubs? This is the Express’ 17th season as a class Triple-A
Pacific Coast Minor League Team.
On our way to the game we will stop at The Salt Lick Restaurant
for delicious BBQ. With a great menu of BBQ plates, sandwiches
and salads, you are sure to find something you like. Since dinner
is on your own, you can spend or eat as much or as little as you
like, or save room for those delicious ball park peanuts.
After dinner we head to the ball field in time to watch your
favorite players warm-up and get ready for the first pitch!
NOTE: There will be lots of walking and large crowds at this
rain or shine outdoor event.

Chisholm Trail – Waco to Round Rock - NEW!

years beginning in 1866, the Chisholm Trail
was the Texas cowboys’ road to adventure. It
held the excitement of sudden stampedes,
hazardous river crossings and brushes with Indians as well as
the promise of a better future for Texas following the Civil War.
Walk in the steps of those who defined our Texas heritage and
22 | SUNRAYS MARCH 2017
created living legends as we explore the trail from the Brazos
River crossing in Waco to Brushy Creek in Round Rock.
We begin in Waco with a tour of the Earle-Harrison House and
Pape Gardens, a true antebellum built in 1858, followed by a
walk on the historic Chisholm Trail Bridge. After a bit of Waco
history, we will head down the trail to Belton for lunch on your
own and browsing.
Following lunch we will rendezvous at The Chisholm Trail
Monument, take a ride through Salado history, and visit the
Chisholm Trail Crossing Park on Brushy Creek in Round Rock.
After a final tale of pioneers and bank robbers, we will toss back
a ‘cowboy shot’ and set the stage for our final Chisholm Trail
outing coming in October – to Fort Worth, where the West begins.
NOTE: Present your outing ticket to see the movie The Cowboys
with John Wayne on Tuesday, May 2, 1 p.m. in Cowan Creek’s
Florence room.

UT Symphony – Bates Hall – Austin - NEW!

The UT Symphony, led by
Maestro Zimmerman since 2006, presents the
best of classical music performed by 60-90 top
college students in a 700-seat auditorium. This
evening’s four-part Symphony No. 3 by Mendelssohn is known
as The Scottish since it was inspired and begun on his 1829 visit
to Scotland. Featuring flutes, oboes, clarinets, horns and
trumpets, the emotional scope of this piece is wide, ranging from
a dark and stormy first movement to folk music and then a victory
hymn as the finale.
NOTE: There are steps to the theatre entrance and a long walk
to the stairs or elevators.
Before the concert enjoy a hearty meal at Carmelo’s Italian
Restaurant. The feast begins with a dinner salad followed by
an entrée plate of lasagna, tortellini and rigatoni with meat
sauce. (No substitutions or other options available.) Homemade
tiramisu for dessert with iced tea or coffee.
