Mariachi Mass – Mission San Jose
San Antonio - NEW!
Lunch on your own – Pearl Brewery
Sunday, May 7, $27 pp
Depart SCPL 8:30 a.m.; return 6 p.m.
Mariachi bands, dressed in colorful,
embroidered costumes and sombreros, have
serenaded us in restaurants and festivals. But
have you been to a Mariachi Mass? Mission
San Jose’s beautiful chapel with its architecture and history will
leave you awestruck as you enter huge wooden doors for noontime
Mass. Celebrating its 40th year, the one hour Mass is in English,
and its ten member Mariachi Band and thirty person choir sing
in Spanish. Drawing large crowds, it is known at the tourist
Mass as curious visitors come to see the Mariachis perform in
this historic sanctuary. The chapel is not air conditioned, so
wear cool clothing. You will have time to visit the Welcome
Center and tour the mission.
We will stop at Buc-ee’s on the way to San Antonio. Lunch will
be late, so feel free to bring snacks.
After Mass, lunch is on your own at The Pearl Complex, home
