Homestead Heritage Fair – Waco

Join us as we travel to a unique
place just outside Waco for the 28th annual
Homestead Fair. This is your opportunity to
spend a lovely fall day outdoors enjoying craft
demonstrations such as woodworking with
hand tools, pottery, sewing, quilting, spinning, weaving, broom
making, basket making, leather work and more. In addition, this
outing gives you the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping.
Browse among hundreds of handcrafted gifts and specialty items.
There will also be agricultural demonstrations, including draft
horse farming, cow and goat milking, sheep herding with a
sheepdog, and cider pressing, as well as exhibits on beekeeping,
poultry raising, farm animals, and more.

It would be difficult to imagine the
Christmas season be without a performance
of Handel’s “Messiah.” The Austin Symphony
and Chorus Austin combine to present both a
holiday classic and a city favorite. This night
of musical magic will comfort you through its familiarity and fill
you with the joy of rediscovery. Begin your winter celebrations
with a performance full of rejoicing!
“Messiah” is one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time
and very possibly the greatest work ever written in English. It is
also, in all probability, the most performed work in the history of
classical music. In virtually every city of the free world, “Messiah”
is performed at least once every year.
Before the performance we will stop at the Domain for dinner
on your own. The restaurants of the Domain offer something
for every taste.

It’s a day of music beginning
with a tour of the Austin City Limits venue in
downtown Austin. This three-year-old, 2,750
person capacity live music venue has won
numerous awards for its shows and theatre
design. With 100 concerts a year, being next to the W Hotel is a
plus for luring top notch acts. As we go “underground” and behind
the scenes, you will be amazed at what it takes to put on a show.
After the tour, we will see a bronze statue of Willie Nelson.
NOTE: This is a 75 minute tour – all standing and climbing
numerous stairs with no access to an elevator.
After the tour it’s time for lunch at a Texas landmark, Scholz
Garten. Enjoy a BBQ buffet of brisket, turkey, potato salad,
coleslaw and beans, water and iced tea. Dessert is Amy’s Mexican
vanilla ice cream.
As we continue our day of music, we are off to the LBJ Library
for “Ladies and Gentlemen – The Beatles” – the immortal words
of Ed Sullivan as he introduced the Beatles to American TV
in 1964. On display will be 400 pieces of Beatles memorabilia
gathered from private collectors and museums. We will also visit
the former President’s artifacts and Oval Office.
