COPS them? (Louise, a resident of Sun City)
Tuesday, Aug. 4, 9:30 a.m., AC MR 1/2 ANSWER:
6 | SUNRAYS AUGUST 2015 The perception of speeding on local streets is probably the most
persistent problem facing residents and traffic officials. Residents
observe vehicles being driven at speeds they perceive are too fast
and call the police to complain. In the past, a traffic unit was
deployed to areas to investigate the complaints.
As a way to reduce utilizing manpower to confirm there is a
speeding problem, the GPD has introduced the use of speed dis-
plays as well as speed cameras that can be dispersed throughout
the city to track areas where complaints are received. Once the
information is obtained and a speeding problem is confirmed, a
strategy can be put in place to gain voluntary compliance with
traffic laws.
For additional traffic related questions, please contact Sgt. Wayne
Hilgenberg at 512-930-3515.
