In the popular Fun n’ Fit Aqua class at Cowan Creek Fitness Center,
double-stacked blue and white barbells create an intense resistance
few can punch through. Despite the exhausting upper body workout,
Sandy Jadlot is able to power through the churning water, even when
using the thickest of the handheld foam weights.
This impressive strength is a direct carryover from her dry land weight-
training sessions with Sun City Personal Trainer Victoria Young.
Victoria has helped Sandy recoup the strength she lost and shed the
pounds she gained while nurturing both a family and a career in the
Dallas/Fort Worth area. Now retired from the banking industry, Sandy
is also an avid walker and treks up to six miles at least three times a
week with neighborhood friends.
“Sandy’s weight loss was at a standstill, and it was time for a change,”
says Victoria, who says her client is “laser-focused” on her workout regi-
men. Sandy was accustomed to a “comfortable” walking pace, easily
chatting with her friends as she walked. “I recommended increasing
her walking pace, which helped to elevate her heart rate and thus in-
crease her caloric expenditure,” says Victoria. “Sandy’s diet also needed
attention, and she took the necessary steps to modify that. The resis-
tance training increased her muscle mass which, in turn, stoked her
metabolism.” Victoria is quick to point out that the benefits of strength
training go far beyond weight loss and an elevated metabolism. Strength
training also increases bone density, improves balance, reduces stress,
improves sleep and slows down the physiological aging clock in general.
“The older I get, the harder it is to lose the weight -- or it just seems that way,” says Sandy, who participates in Sun City
Fitness Center’s Lighten Up for Life Program as well as Weight Watchers. “I realize now that the more active I am, the
better I feel and the easier routine movements become. In just the short time I have been working out with Victoria, I
can tell I am on the way to accomplishing my goals.”
According to Sandy, the personal training sessions have helped her in all the physical areas of her life. “My walking
endurance has improved, and so has my endurance for golfing and aqua class,” she says. “I’m also able to accomplish
more in my everyday life. Sun City provides so many opportunities for us to be active, and I want to take advantage of
everything it has to offer.”
