Summer is here and golfing goes on…heat and all! The Partner’s Match Play Tour-
nament in June was a huge success. It was followed by a “Shoot-Out” and a social at
Putters Café. Winners were announced at the social.
Listed below are the overall Partner’s Match Play results:
Our Presidents’ Cup Tournament was held
on June 17 and 24. Ladies who held the
position of President of the WGA 9 served
as team captains with their teams being de-
termined by a drawing. Each teamdressed
in a specific color shirt and created a name
to coincide. “Gang-Green” captains were
Betty Ann Preston and Susan Myers; the
“Red Hot Tomatoes” were playing for Carol
Thonen and Nancy Wagner; Elaine Cielo’s
teamwore yellow shirts and named them-
selves the “Golden Chicks;” and the team
leader for “SnowWhite” was Cleo Ramsey.
The first day of play took place on the front
nine of Legacy Hills, and the girls tack-
led the more challenging back nine on the
second day. On June 17, our pace of play
was fabulous and all concerned were quite
thrilled. We were confident the solutions to
our goal of maintaining pace of play had
been met; however, with the second round
taking substantially longer, another puzzle
unfolded. Data was solicited by the chair of
our Ambassadors’ Group, and we are hope-
ful a reason and a solution can be found.
Regardless of the longer than usual round,
everyone had a fun time.
Amodified match play was the format and
when the final number of holes won by each
teamwas calculated, the Gang-Green team
captured first place, winning 86 games, and
the Golden Chicks came in a close second
with 85.5 games!
After players clunked their last ball into the
cup, they gathered at The Oaks, where the
social committee—D. Rowe, Doni Glass-
maker and Janice Brown—treated every-
one to a pizza and salad buffet.

Our Red Ball tournaments are be-
hind us and the dog days of sum-
mer lie ahead. Participation was
above average for these events that
test everyone’s “nerves of steel.”
The last thing any of us want to do
is let down our teammates by los-
ing the Red Ball. While most of us
were successful, some of us failed;
but, I understand everyone was
forgiven as the adult beverages
flowed during our Q2 luncheon/
meeting.
Wednesday Playdays continue to
provide a great opportunity to get
an early morning tee time dur-
ing the summer months. I look
forward to seeing you at these
weekly events.
Here are the details of the remain-
ing MGA tournaments for 2014:
• Club Championship:
9-Hol-
ers play September 3, 5 and 10
and 18-Holers play September
8, 10 and 12. The awards ban-
quet will be held on Saturday,
September 13. Spouses are
welcome to join us as we revel
in the thrill of victory or agony
of defeat.
• Rally For the Cure:
October 3.
• Member/Guest:
October 31 –
November 1.
• Fall Member/Member:
No-
vember 12 – 13.
Please remember that all of our
tournaments benefit from the sup-
port of our sponsors. These busi-
nesses help keep our entry fees
low, provide better meals at our
banquets, return more entry fees
as sweeps payouts, and purchase
better tee gifts. Please be sure to
support our generous sponsors
by awarding them with business
whenever possible.
