charitable events
and fundraisers

to publish
volunteer opportunities
. We do not publicize monthly

The following special events are taking place in April and early May.
Friends of the LIbrary
The Friends of the Georgetown Public Li-
brary will hold a fundraiser on Tuesday,
April 1 at the Fish City Grill located at
1029 W. University Avenue in George-
town’s Wolf Ranch Town Center.
FishCityGrill has graciously agreed to do-
nate 15 percent of its total receipts for that
day to the Friends. Come for lunch, dinner,
or just beverages and snacks and help the
Friends earnmoney to support unfunded
projects at the Georgetown Public Library.
Knights of Columbus Bingo
Bingo in the Ballroomwill be on Sunday,
April 6 in the Social Center Ballroom.
Doors open at 5 p.m., and games start at
6 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded. All
proceeds are used to support various chari-

Moon Over Buffalo

4. Charlotte and George Hay are on tour
in Buffalo in 1953 with a repertory con-
sisting of

, when they receive
word that they might just have one last
shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming
to town to see their matinee. Showtimes
are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.
and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $26 for
general admission, $24 for seniors (55 and
up), and $10 for children.
American Legion Pancakes
American Legion Post 174 is hosting a
Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s Restau-
rant on Saturday, April 26. Tickets are
$10 per person. Call Jay Jernigan, Post

purchase tickets at Applebee’s onApril 26.
The breakfast is a complete buffet from
eggs benedict to juice. Funds go to support
our veterans and area students.
Lions’ Red Poppy Breakfast
The Georgetown Noon Lions Club will
host its annual all-you-can-eat Red Poppy
Breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, April
27 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. in San Gabriel
Park. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for
children under 10. Funds raised benefit
scholarships, Texas Lions Camp for Spe-
cial Needs, early childhood vision screen-
ings, eyeglass recycling and more.
Symphony season finale
On Sunday, April 27 at 4 p.m. at the GHS
Klett Center for the Performing Arts, the
Georgetown Symphony Society will com-
plete its 14th seasonwith a concert by the
Temple Symphony Orchestra, directed by
Thomas Fairlie, playingworks by Sibelius
and Beethoven. The programwill feature
guest artist Eka Gogichashvili. Tickets
($30 for adults inPremiumSeating, $25 in
General Seating, $5 for students in either

Anne Frank Exhibit
Anne Frank: AHistory for Today

will be at the Georgetown Library until
May 4. The exhibit is presented by Con-
gregation Havurah Shalom of Sun City
Texas. Docent led tours can be scheduled

Hill Country Author Series
The Friends of the Georgetown Library’s
Hill Country Author Series will feature
writer Dr. JamesMagnuson on Thursday,
May 8 at 3 p.m. at the library. Doors open
at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Magnuson is the author of
Famous Writers I Have Known
, his ninth
novel, and will be the second speaker of
2014 in the Author Series.
Tickets for the event are $13 in advance
and $15 at the door, andmay be purchased
at the SecondHandProse bookstore on the
second floor of the library or by contacting

Art & Author Book Faire
OnSaturday, May 10, from1-5 p.m., Mem-
bers of the SunCityVisual Arts, Photogra-
phy, and theMountainDulcimer clubswill
combine with AcTAG and Central Texas
Authors at the Art & Author Book Faire
at the Georgetown Public Library. Photos
and artworkwill stress the theme of “Look
in the Book”. Author and publishing guru
Rhiannon Frater will be the speaker. The
event is free and open to the public. For
