GROUNDBREAKING FOR SH 195
The Texas Department of Transportation formally broke ground on Monday, February 11 to begin work on the widening of State
Highway 195. The five-mile, $18.8 million project will rebuild the existing pavement on SH 195 from Interstate 35 to near Ronald
Reagan Boulevard into a four-lane divided road, to enhance safety and improve mobility for residents and soldiers utilizing
the highway, according to a TxDOT press release. At the groundbreaking ceremony, TxDOT Area Engineer Mark Jones said
construction should take an estimated 24 months. This project is the next segment aimed at expanding and improving the
state highway, the first of which began in April 2011 in Bell County and is expected to be completed in early 2014, Jones said.
The final segment will unite the two projects underway, which TxDOT anticipates to begin this summer. For more information

representative from Ft. Hood, Congressman John Carter, and Williamson County Commissioner Valerie Covey, the featured
