About me
I am originally from Louisiana but
moved to Austin in 1949. After gradu-
ating from Austin High School, I joined
the Marine Corps in 1952. I graduated
from The University of Texas in 1959
with a degree inmechanical engineering.
I spent my early career in the rocket mo-
tor field, designing everything from seat
ejection systems for military aircraft to
missile systems for the military. I worked
at Rocketdyne as the Project Engineer-
ing Manager for one of the rocket motors
for the Saturn V space system that took
the first man to the moon. I finished my
career with Motorola in Austin where I
was Director of Quality Assurance for
manufacturing operations in their Semi-
conductor Division, retiring in 1998.
My wife, Sam, and I have been married
for 40 years. Between us we have four
children and eight grandchildren. We
moved to Sun City in 2004 to get away
from the traffic in the Austin area, and
we love it here in Georgetown.
How long have you been with
the CA?
I have been with the CA for five years.
I started out as a part-time monitor at
the Texas Drive Fitness Center. For
the past two (plus) years, I have been a
full-time employee and have seen and
helped in the transition of adding the
Cowan Creek Fitness Center to the CA
organization.
What does your job entail?
As Fitness Coordinator, I am responsible
for supervising 12 monitors who are lo-
cated at both Fitness Centers and mak-
ing sure the operations at both facilities
are open and running smoothly. I have
primary responsibility working with the
Maintenance Department to make sure
the facilities are maintained in good
working condition. I am also involved
in planning, budgeting and preparing
reports for management concerning fa-
cility usage, activity reporting and utili-
ties reports. The major responsibility I
have is to make sure that the residents
are happy and always feel welcome when
they come to the Fitness Centers—and,
more importantly, that they leave feeling
that they were appreciated and well-
served.
Challenges about your job?
My biggest challenge is making sure the
800-900 residents that enter the Fitness
Centers daily are made welcome by me
and my staff of monitors. The everyday
challenges—like computer problems,
phone problems and maintenance is-
sues—are what make the days interest-
ing and frustrating at the same time.
Keeping the facilities running smoothly
and looking like the first-class operation
we strive to be is a challenge I welcome.
Favorite part of your job?
Coming to work and getting to work with
a great staff and group of people who are
supportive of our goals. My most favorite
part is getting to know the residents
and seeing the satisfaction on their faces
when I interface with them.
