SIG Overview

There are 12 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that enhance and expand the Horticulture Garden experience.  Click on each SIG name to find out more!

Greenhouse - provides quality organic starter plants for club members and the community and a low cost source of landscape plants as well as generates revenue at the semi-annual plant sales.

Herb Garden - provides fresh, organically grown herbs available to members as well as a peaceful, fragrant resting area for those hard working club members.

Infrastructure -  provides construction and maintenance for all the extensive  irrigation system, electrical system, buildings as well as the fence that surrounds the 5+ acre complex.

Iris - provides a unique service to identify, catalogue and propagate hundreds of donated iris and make them available to club members, the community, and the general public at the semi-annual plant sales.  Joining the Iris SIG is an opportunity to better understand the needs of bearded Iris plants (click HERE

Mowing and Weedeating - Mow and weed eat the common areas of the garden for safety and to enhance the aesthetics of the Horticulture Gardens.

Native Plant Garden  - provides a professionally designed garden which uses plants native to Central Texas. Special emphasis is on plants native to the geographic regions of Georgetown, Texas which includes the Black Plains Prairie (East of Interstate 35) and the Edwards Plateau (West of Interstate 35). Many Sun City residents move to this area from different USDA planting zones of the United States and visit the Native Plant Garden.

Nursery- provides care and nurturing for "rescued" plants, tending them for re-sale year-round as well as managing the sale of our bagged compost.

Orchard  - maintains and harvests a beautiful orchard of peaches,  nectarines, apples, pear, and plums.

Outreach - raises wholesome, organic produce for donation to the local Food Bank and a licensed maternity home.  For the past three years, over 2,000 pounds of food was donated each year.

Plant-Based Eating Interest Group - encourage, inform, and educate those interested in the health benefits of a whole food, plant-based diet by offering fellowship, lectures, videos, cooking demonstrations, a lending library, and support at monthly meetings.

Powered Equipment -   provides tractor services such as moving mulch/sand/manure/dirt/rocks, tree trimming, tilling, mowing, stump grinding, dumpster packing, etc.  to Horticulture Club as well as training and instruction to volunteers.

Small Engine Repair and Maintenance - provides continual maintenance of all tools and powered equipment including small engine repair that can be done in house.  Includes tire inflation and replacement of all carts and wheelbarrows.
