Hike, Fish and Lunch at Garey Park
Hey N48ers! Join your neighbors at Georgetown's Garey Park on Tuesday, October 18. We will meet at the park at 10:00 a.m. There is a small entry fee of $1 per person for Sun City residents. Please park in the parking lot just past the ponds. Please park in the northeast corner of the lot so we can have an area to sit and enjoy our lunches. There are scattered picnic tables throughout the park if you choose to eat in smaller groups. During our visit, you will have the option to hike, fish, or just join your neighbors for lunch. You can do any or all of these activities! The park has nine trails, with the majority of them being easy to moderate, with distances from 0.22 miles to 2.3 miles. As you enter the park, ask for a Trial Map, as it has important information on not only the trails but points of interest along the way. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water! Garey Park has two stocked fishing ponds for catch-and-release fishing. The ponds are stocked with bass, catfish, and sunfish. For those who want to fish, you're welcome to fish before, during, or after our group hikes. Please bring your fishing equipment, however, Boyd will be bringing extra equipment (rods, reels, and tackle) for those in need. Each person should bring their own sack lunch and drinks. Please bring chairs (and a table if desired) since we will be eating close to where we are parked. We will eat at approximately noon. There are also restrooms near where we are dining. Please register online by Saturday, October 15 so we know how many people to expect. If you would like to carpool, please check the registration list online to contact others about riding together. Garey Park is a 24-minute drive from Sun City. Head south on Ronald Reagan, past Hwy. 29 several miles until you reach FM 2243. Take a left at 2243, then another left into the part on Garey Park Road.
