Scattered through the rolling Hill Country and along the Blackland Prairie of Texas are 20 extraordinary churches that brim with art. While their exteriors are like many country churches, their interiors are decorated with an unexpected profusion of color! Murals radiate from the altars, elaborate foliage trails the walls, angels bedeck the ceilings and wooden columns shine like polished marble. These are the Painted Churches of Texas. Built by 19th century immigrants in this rough but promising territory, these churches will transport you to a different era and a different way of life. Join us for a docent-guided tour of four of these remarkable churches and explore the stories of the people who built them. Buc-ee's in Bastrop will be our morning rest stop, and Oakridge Smokehouse will host our country lunch buffet.
